We asked some of the city’s leading artists and creatives to tell us about how they decided to pursue an artistic or creative career. We’ve shared some highlights below.

J Brazyy | Music Artist & Voice of the youth

Well I’ve always been musically gifted with vocals and instruments. Ever since the age of 3 I’ve been playing drums and eventually as I got older I started picking up more and more instruments and took vocal lessons. My musical idol is the late florida rapper “XXXTENTACION” and he really inspired to chase my dreams. To be honest, it was never my true intention to actually pursue anything serious! In December of 2019 when I wrote and recorded my first song “ROSES”, I didn’t really expect it to do anything major because I wasn’t known as an artist or had any type of buzz around my name. The BoyS Brian and Steven | Performers and vocalists

We both have been with the arts since we were young, it just seemed like a normal career path for both of us. Going to college for dance or musical theatre, perusing jobs on cruises or professional theatres around the country. So when Steven moved down here from Michigan and found Brian, it just made sense, we had this passion for singing and performing and we understood how to give the crowd what they wanted. The next logical step was to create this cabaret style duo group. Two male vocalist taking on everything from the 50’s, 60’s, up to the 90’s and current pop hits. Specifically, I remember the ‘Universal Orlando’s Horror Make-Up Show’ changing my life and showing 8 year old me that a career in makeup was possible. Ever since then I have known that I needed to become a makeup artist because its what truly makes me happy and creatively fulfilled. Read more>>

Katie Vega | Chef

I think everyone that has ever know me, knew I was born to stand out rather than fit in. I was always into the “arts” from a young age but not art, like pen to paper. My brain didn’t work like that. But creating with my hands was different. I started cooking and baking with my Mom and Grandma as soon as I could stand on a stool at the counter. Read more>>
