We had the good fortune of connecting with Macarena Salinas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Macarena, what inspires you?
I am inspired by the connections that exist in nature, those vital connections, of the natural cycles of life and evolution. That energy of a nature that exists and pre-exists. I am interested in nature with its vital force, its cycles, its beauty, with the cycles in the sense of unity and the magic of life, the cycles of the regeneration of nature and the origin of creation, the origin of life.

As an artist I try to capture in my works the secret of the moment of working, I feel the need that the action of working, is revealed in the work and that become part of it. I am interested in the magic that the piece of art acquires as it become independent from the artist and seduce and be appreciated by others.

I am inspired by the idea of the creative process, from the minute it arises in the artist’s mind until the work takes shape.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am excited to have achieved what I have achieved in my career, since it is a career that is not easy, because it requires a lot of perseverance, to continue on the path of creation, it requires continuous reinvention, it requires working, trying, making mistakes. and go back to work more, and on that path it is easy to stay. Starting with a new area in art, such as encountering ceramics, was a great challenge, learning new techniques, new processes, especially the patience that is vital in ceramics, for me it was a great life lesson. However, the connection I feel with the clay in my hands and working on it is so powerful that it inspires and motivates me every day.
It inspires and amazes me every time I work both in ceramics and in painting, the creative process, the way works arise, the magic that exists in the creation of a work.
I feel grateful for life to be able to dedicate myself to art and to be able to transmit through my works

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I haven’t been in Miami long time, but from what I’ve seen I recommend the Pérez Museum, the building is wonderful, the ICA Miami, which is in the very stylish Design District, and there’s the Mandolin Restaurant that I I loved the vibe and the food and the De la Cruz Collection Museum, very well set up and with a very good collection. I cannot stop recommending Coral Gables, where the gallery in which I am exhibiting Gally Gallery is located, at 2522 Ponce de Leon, it is a neighborhood full of good galleries and good restaurants.

Impossible to miss the beaches of Miami, sunbathe and swim in its wonderful waters, I would go to Naples and the Keys.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The life and career of art has taught me to persevere, to be very hard-working, to cultivate patience, to get up at times when things are difficult and continue, to continue on a path of constant search and investigation, to follow that motivation of showing others that inner voice, that need to communicate through my art. In my training my great teachers have been José Balmes and Conchita Balmes in painting and Ruth Krauskopf in ceramics.
