We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Calvo PA-C and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ashley, what is the most important factor behind your success?
There are multiple things, but I’ll start with the key to my success as an injector and it’s quite simple—I do what I love, and try my best to create, build, and excel at something people value. I deeply enjoy what I do and am able to do what I love every single day. I feel that I have truly found my purpose within the industry of Aesthetic Medicine and this makes life extremely fulfilling both personally and professionally. It’s incredibly satisfying to be able to add value, bring happiness, build confidence, and make a small difference or impact in the lives of others. This is what drives me.

I meet so many different and interesting people on a daily basis who come to me with their concerns. Being able to help them solve their problems and meet their goals means so much to me. This often results in a boost in their confidence and helps make them feel more attractive, recognized, and loved. Money does not motivate me and it has not been a driving factor in my journey toward success. I believe if the work I do is good, if I give my best, then eventually the rewards will follow.

Giving my best also means never stop learning. “The day you think you know it all is when you stop learning” – Julie Horne. I consider myself an eternal student on a quest for the most cutting-edge knowledge and best practice techniques to provide better safer outcomes. I recently attended masterclass training in Zurich—The Inner Circle Swiss Aesthetic Institute conference, which was limited to only 50 injectors in the world. I will continue to participate in the latest training for aesthetic procedures to enhance my craft so that I continue to achieve the best results for my patients. I’m incredibly grateful to my mentors, Dr. Shino Bay, Julie Horne, Dr. Felix Bertram, Dr. Raj Acquilla, Dr. Lee Gibstein, Stacy Chimento, Dr. Subbio, Dr. Tim Pearce who have all dedicated their time and knowledge, given me guidance, and shared their wisdom. You have all had a significant impact on my evolution as an injector and how I manage my practice.

The single most important factor in the success of my brand and business is my incredibly amazing team at Nüvo You. My business partner and Medical Director, Ashwin Sabbani is such a rare gem of a human being and has helped me build something truly special. He’s got a heart of gold and a lot of hard work behind it. Our staff is truly amazing!

We have been truly blessed with our team of rare special unicorns! It’s all about the supportive team of people who have helped us along our journey making it so much more enjoyable! From our dedicated, knowledgeable staff of medical professionals to those behind the scenes—thank you! We focused our efforts to find the best people in order to make a significant impact. We have taken our time to develop our incredible team! It was not easy, but worth it was worth it, and we are blessed with the best!

Self-awareness and finding the right staff to balance out your strengths and weakness is critical. The hardest part about becoming a business owner for me was learning how to effectively manage a medical spa: It’s a lot of figuring it out along the way. I know nothing about being a boss, but we say “it’s figure-out-able.” It’s a constantly evolving process. We develop the structure of our operational processes and then re-evaluate and refine them to increase efficiency as we grow.

Luckily we have an incredible collaborative effort from our amazing managers, Mark and Safia, and Team Nüvo colleagues. We are always helping each other out and sharing the workload. It’s great because everyone brings their unique talents and we learn from each other. You guys teach me so much especially when it comes to  TikTok and Reels (which are not the same thing, lol.) It’s nice because it’s all hands on deck regardless of what your role is—that means sometimes the doctors take out the trash and I love that about our culture.

I am very agreeable, giving, and mindful of the emotions of others which by definition does not always make me an effective manager. I’ve learned the importance of communicating clearly and regularly and having a clear structure in place. I now set clear boundaries with clients, enforce policies, and make an effort to improve my effectiveness as a manager. I’ve stopped trying to do it all myself and learned to ask for help, then delegate to our amazing Aesthetics Practice Manager, Safia who can always do it better. I’ve learned that I work best alongside individuals who can match my energy level and commitment, and I honor that as we continue to build our team. P.S. Shoutout to Liana, our marketing maven—you have brought out the best in us, helped us grow, and made us look way too good online! Thanks for being an incredible listener and creator, and for pushing me to grow past my comfort zone.

Thanks again to Mark, Safia, and Liana, and to Ashley, Lindsay, Jose, Dr. Joe Khell, Sarah, Liz, and the entire Nüvo You family for helping us create something exceptional. You guys are the secret sauce and the reason we are successful. I appreciate my Nüvo You family so much!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to give a shoutout to my husband, Dr. Joseph Khell for his constant love and endless support. Thank you for supporting my wild ideas and helping me stay balanced and grounded. You’re the greatest of all time! (My GOAT!)

Shoutout to my family: Mom, Dad, Grandma, and especially my Grandpa for always believing in me, loving, and supporting me. You built the foundation of our family and helped prepare me for life every step of the way. You sacrificed so much to give me the best life possible. My family taught me to live intentionally, laugh often, and never be too busy for the ones that matter.

A special shoutout to my Grandpa, Jaime Calvo who raised me. He’s the best man I have ever known. He shared a lifetime of unconditional love and wisdom with me. He taught me that I can have a good life if I keep my word, be a good person, work very hard, and keep pushing forward with a belief in the better days ahead. He taught me to appreciate the beauty around me and find the beauty in others and leave the world a little better than you found it.

Our medical director, Ashwin Sabbani of course—a.k.a Dr. Nüvo. He’s the best business partner and is the real “Beauty Boss.” You can see why everyone loves him, so check him out on our IG, @nuvoyoumedspa, or while he provides hangover vitamin IV’s on Miami Beach for Miami Swim Week.
