We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenny Kalimi and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jenny, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
My inspiration comes from culture. I grew up in a Latino military household, my mom is Panamanian and my father is Puerto Rican. I was practically raised on sazón. I love working with loud music, anything with a good beat! From there I just get to creating whatever feels good. Most times I don’t have anything in mind just my jewelry pliers, some chains, and my mannequin. I’ve just always been surrounded by a lot of culture. Growing up in a military household, you move around a lot and meet many people from different walks of life. A lot of my friends and family come from different backgrounds and I’ve been blessed to be surrounded by its vibrancy that lightens my work.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
At the beginning of my business journey I branded my business as an online jewelry store. It was fun and exciting but I felt I personally lacked in something. I transitioned into jewelry rentals. A close friend of mine Norma Castro introduced me to the music video and photo shoot world. It felt like I found what I was missing. Although I know many successful online jewelry stores, for me it didn’t fulfill me in the way I thought it would. Now my client list of stylist and celebrities has grown and I get to create new accessories daily. The feeling of seeing something I created come to life on an artist and how it makes them feel never gets old and for me that is what makes me most proud. I guess the biggest lesson learned up until now is that you can make plans, but God will laugh at you! I’m just winging it every step of the way.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is funny because when my close friends visit from out of town im always going nuts trying to figure out where I can take them to have the best time ever. Almost every time we have to make a sweet tooth stop at Mr Kream, best ice cream in miami hands down, I know the owner he’s pretty cool too (shameless plug). Last time my girls were in town we tried a new spot called El Tiesto and it was probably one of our best nights out. The food was amazing and the music had us up all night. Now I feel like I need to go back asap!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Without a doubt my amazing husband, my beautiful mother, and my kids . Without them my business wouldn’t thrive, they are everything!
