Meet Irene Malfanti | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Irene Malfanti and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Irene, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought was to create a creative and dynamic business, my goal is to photograph people and moments, delivering authentic and natural memories to our customers.

When I work I love to be inspired by the light and by the people that we encounter feelings.

We work throughout the Italian and foreign territory.
I love my job because it gives me the opportunity to travel and see the world.

For work I take many planes and trains, and this allows me to experience sometimes absurd situations. Sometimes I thought: am I in a movie?

I had the opportunity to visit inaccessible places and eat this for starred chefs.

I wanted a creative passion such as photography to also become a job and a source of income but also a stimulus to improve as a person by traveling.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My name is Irene and I deal with reportage photography. Of all kinds, family, corporate, art, events. I am a daughter of art, both of my parents are photographers. My life has always been surrounded by photography and art. So when I was twenty I decided to study photography.

I lived in Milan for eight years where I studied photography and specialized in reportage.

It wasn’t easy, you need a lot of courage to work in the world of photography.
I went to many photographic studios and I met many people who helped me. Are we still friends.

I love my work, to which I dedicate all of myself. My goal is to tell in a simple and elegant way the contests and the emotions I experience, the small snapshots and those precious details made of glances and shadows, to return a path in images that really speak of the people I photograph.

For the past fifteen years I have specialized in reportage for couples and families. But I also follow artists, sculptors and painters for their works of art.

Specifically, a great master of sculpture is Jimenez Deredia whom I had the honor of following in Miami. I documented his exhibition “Jiménez Deredia in Miami – A Bridge of Light”

This type of experience for me was incredible, it was the first time I visited the US, and I loved being able to live so many new experiences that made me grow as a person and as a professional.

I think the peculiarity of my style is that it is always fresh and spontaneous, I always try to improve and I am never satisfied with the result. I think photography is a great way to get to know different people and places and always be able to grow

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in one of the most beautiful places in Italy. Liguria. I would definitely take a friend of mine to visit the Cinque Terre.

The Cinque Terre are ancient fishing villages located along the rugged Italian coast.

Each of these villages is characterized by colorful houses and vineyards clinging to the steep terraces created on the coast.

The ports are crowded with fishing boats and in the typical trattorias it is possible to try seafood specialties, as well as the famous Ligurian condiment: pesto.

The Sentiero Azzurro, a hiking path that stretches along the coast, connects the Cinque Terre together and offers splendid views of the sea.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

The artist I have to thank and who is fundamental at this moment in my career is Jiménez Deredia, a Costa Rican sculptor who chose me to document his sculptures.

Jiménez Deredia is one of the most important contemporary artists in Latin America, since 1976 he has lived in Liguria for this reason we met. Deredia lives in Italy and precisely near Carrare because he makes marble sculptures.

The exhibition project “Deredia in Genoa – The sphere between two worlds” is therefore the result of a deep bond between the master Deredia and the Ligurian territory, which adopted it more than forty years ago, this was a project that I documented the second is Un Puente de Luz in Miami.

For me, being able to work closely with Maestro Deredia is an honor and a constant source of inspiration.
