We had the good fortune of connecting with umoja McNeish and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi umoja, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
One huge factor for success with our band is the fact that we were trained to give 110% in every show that we have and to give each event and venue the same level of energy. This continued to allow our brand and performance to be realiable in the eyes of those who want to hire us and work with us creating a a good reputation with our clients.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
One thing that excites me in terms of what we do is being able to move and effect a large mass of people and drawing them into a euphoric experience that promotes positive vibes and energy. Where we are at today took a lot of jumping out of our boundaries and a lot of trust in our own abilities. I’d say it was challenging but felt natural do to our live for what we did and the support we had around us. A big lesson I learned is that everyone has a talent and a place of genius that they can work from that’s not neccesarily as skill but rather the way to look at something and react to it the more we lean into our or unique traits the more we develope into the truest form of our self, and we all know where the talent lies. It’s in the way we walk, the way we talk, the way we move and the way we groove – its in the way we react and the choices we are prone to make, its all in the core values that define us. We also learned that you can’t let the culturalscape( rules defined by collective society) define the journey you have and the choices you make, every persons has different path to get to where we want to be at and sometimes it my drastically be different from what others experience.
What I want the world to know about our brand and story is that the ends never justify the means and that every action we all make creates a ripple that may turn into a giant wave. How we treat each other goes a long way and that your journey goes beyond just your own life. No matter what you do you will always create a legacy that follows after your arc in your story. The next main character will carry on something that you have parted consciously or unconsciously that can shake the world.
We do our best to play our part in creating something that helps the world move that reflects the values that we have.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well I would def start by taken them to a place to relax and unwind like the Japanese garden in boca raton or to the ft Lauderdale park by the Galleria Mall. Then we would go to check out some of the culture that Miami has to off by going to wynwood during the evening and just exploring to see where the night takes us. I actually really enjoy going to concerts and seeing other people perform so I would def do that.
Personally I don’t go out a whole lot but places I do enjoy would be things that are a unique spectacal the fills you with wonder and awe( like the new 4dx theatre that opened up by Hollywood) or even something simple as just going to a nice park or playing laser tag.
People that interest me or excite would be kind people that are very deep thinkers and they have a refreshing perspective on situations and life.
Also I love anything that has to do with seeing wildlife or interesting things about nature.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We obviously want to give a huge shout out to Black violin for inspire us to take this journey since we were young kids. Also want to give a shout out to Denise Robbillard from Vyola ink for giving us this opportunity to be part of this.
