We had the good fortune of connecting with V Kay and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi V, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I decided to create my blog, my thought process was that I wanted to share my travel stories as well as help other travelers with tips and tricks that I have learned over the years. Also, I wanted the blog to be a bit more interesting and different than everything that was available out there which is why I came up with the whole unicorn theme. So, a combination of all of those ideas is how I started my blogging journey.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have been blogging for about 4 years now, however, at the moment I am mainly focusing on updating older posts for SEO. It was definitely not easy to get to this point, there were a lot of setbacks and doubts. I think the only reason I got to where I am today is that I would not give up. No matter what happened, I truly believed that I can one day be a full-time travel blogger and content creator. I am still not there yet, but I am getting closer every day. An important lesson that I have learned along the way is that you need to listen to the people who have already achieved the dream life that you are trying to create for yourself. Their help will really get you out of the rut and help you move forward. I hope that whoever is looking for travel inspiration and information will engage with my content and find it helpful and useful.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love Miami so it will be very hard to pick my favorite places. The number one thing to do in Miami, in my opinion, is to enjoy Miami Beach. We spent a lot of time just relaxing on the beach and swimming. South Beach and Ocean Drive are a must-see with all the Art Deco buildings and restaurants. Explore some of Miami’s vibrant neighborhoods such as Little Havana and Little Haiti. If you are into street art, why not check out the Wynwood Walls. A trip to Miami is not complete without stopping at the Bayside Marketplace and taking a ride on the Skyviews Miami Observation Wheel. All of the food in Miami was amazing but trying the local seafood is a must. Seeing the stunning Everglades on an airboat is a bucket list item for sure. Experiencing this unique ecosystem and all the wildlife is a great thing to add to your itinerary. Also, doing a day or weekend trip to Key West is an amazing opportunity to explore some of the Florida Keys. Don’t forget to try the Key Lime pie, I loved the ones covered in chocolate!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Ooo gosh…there have been so many people who have helped me along the way that there is no way I can mention all of them. However, the travel blogging community on Twitter has been one of the most encouraging and supportive places throughout the years. Also, I need to mention the creator of the Scale Your Travel Blog course and my coach Laura Peters who has been amazing at helping me improve my blog in terms of SEO and monetization.
