Meet Shaketha Marion | Speaker, social media influencer and author

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shaketha Marion and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shaketha, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
My brand “This Mom Means Business Inc” offers a variety of services like public speaking, mentoring and social media influencing all which caters to the mental health of parents, children. and each of my followers. I create a positive atmosphere for those who may be in a dark place. Most recently I’ve been independently contacted by a local company to provide the community with events and activities in hopes of lowering criminal activities, gang activities, drug/alcohol usage and mental health crisis in our youth.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve worked in the mental health field for over 5 years and I’ve learned that almost anyone can get a degree in this field, but not everyone has the compassion needed to make a difference in the lives of those who need it most. I truly feel that is what sets me apart. I thrive on making the lives of others better. I truly believe it’s my purpose and the reason why I’m here. I’ve survived cancer, domestic abuse, sexual assault and homelessness. Instead of saying “why me” and feeling sorry for myself, I realized that my pain ultimately pushed me into my purpose. I now share my testimony and my story with others to help them heal, give them hope and show them what is possible if you don’t give up.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Savannah, Georgia would definitely be my first stop! I love historic places, sightseeing and ghost stories and Savannah has it all! River Street is my favorite place to visit. There you can find food, fun and a really cool boat ride there. Wet Willie’s is a fun bar to go to with great music and a really nice/chill vibe. I love the beach and Tybee Island is right down the road from Savannah. It’s a beautiful place to soak up some sun and visit the historical lighthouse.
Atlanta, Ga would be my next stop for some city life fun. The night life is always live! I don’t have any particular places to go, but I’d love to go there and check out a comedy club, the big Ferris wheel that over looks the city and depending on the time of year Botanical Gardens is such a beautiful place to visit! The Christmas light show is breathtaking! And while we’re up there, Stone Mountain would be another great place to go. Either climb up or take a lift to the top and overlook the city. It’s a beautiful place to visit.
After a fun adventurous time I’d come back home to Dublin, Ga and grab some soul food from Paula’s and go visit family in my hometown of Sandersville, Ga. Maybe not all in that order, but those would be my go to places!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to my children Jahkeem, Takeia & Serinity. They are the driven force behind my motivation. I never knew life until I knew motherhood. I’d like to also thank my parents Alex and Lola who have always been my biggest supporters (RIP mom), my siblings, Shedrick, Marilyn, Iesha, Trenton & Matthias, and my best friends Tina and Dre. Last but not least, God. Without God I wouldn’t have my support system or my success. Without God I am nothing and can do nothing.
