We had the good fortune of connecting with Genesis Games and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Genesis, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
It fills my heart to use my photography business to make an impact, even if small, in our community. Last fall, I fundraised money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Every deposit I collected for the entirety of two months, went directly to the research, education, and support of those living with cystic fibrosis and their loved ones. This spring I am fundraising money for the National Alliance on Mental Illness. As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, I know the importance of fighting stigma, advancing research, and providing support for those living with mental illness and their families. I have asked my followers on Instagram to donate for a chance to win a heavily discounted session of their choice. This coming Fall, I will be planning a fundraiser for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. My mother is a breast cancer survivor so this cause is near and dear to my heart.

My vision for my business is that it can make larger contributions to the community and even the world as it continues to grow.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m not the photographer for you, if you are looking for perfectly curated photos with tons of props, very posed vibes, and highly edited. Editorial is not my style.

I’m here for the simplicity and rawness of life. I’m here for the pillow fights and messy baking scene. I’m here for you running after your toddler. Your fur babies having zoomies. You being you in your element. I love capturing the belly laughs, the tears, the excitement, and the “I love you” that is unspoken. My passion is creating art of joy in the midst of the chaos of life.

I’m committed to providing my clients with an emotive gallery that will move them every time and transport them back to that moment. This means I coach my clients from the moment they pay their deposit all the way until the last photo I take of them. I will provide styling help and connect you with a professional stylist if needed. I will provide suggestions for locations and the best time to shoot. I provide guidance in my sessions, while also giving clients the space to be themselves. I offer intentional prompts to capture candids, true connections, and real emotions. I like to say that my couple sessions feel like a date night with me as a third wheel. Family sessions with small kiddos are just one fun play date.

The birthing of Genesis G Photography was a long time coming. I have loved photography since I was 9 years old and was gifted my first film camera. Growing up becoming a photographer was not a “real career” in my family. Although I was never discouraged from capturing the world with my lens, it was implied I would go to school for a “real career.” And so I did, I became a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and now also own a small online private practice. At some point between completing my licensure requirements and life, I put down my camera because there was just too much on my plate. A regret I still carry. I do not regret my career as a psychotherapist which has brought immense purpose to my life and I believe makes me a better photographer. I do wish I had continued photographing throughout the years.

In 2022, I came across a training on how to use photography as a tool in therapy. I took this training, which pushed me to get behind the camera again. It also helped me see a deeper meaning in even the simplest photographs and witness the power an image has to evoke long-gone emotional memories. I knew that I never wanted to put my camera down again. I also knew that I wanted to not only use photography as a therapeutic tool, but I wanted to create art through photography. I decided to take the leap and bet on myself. I invested in better equipment and in education and built Genesis G Photography.

My biggest challenge was always myself. Thinking I was not good enough. Not believing in my talent. Comparing myself to others. Getting in my own way time and time again. The day I decided to invest in myself and take the plunge, I got out of my own way. That is not to say that I no longer struggle with self-doubt, because I certainly do. It just no longer controls me.

I have learned that to live a fulfilling life you have to lean into what brings you joy, invest in what is important to you, and believe in yourself. You might have to fake the last one for a little while, that is okay.

Genesis G Photography is not just about delivering pretty photos. It is about making the entire experience, from booking to gallery delivery, one you want to repeat.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Miami is such a fun city to visit and there is something for everyone.

I would spend a few days in the Florida Keys and take my bestie to Robert is Here, Key Lime Pie Factory, Islamorada Fish Company, Islamorada Brewery, Bahia Honda State Park, and of course Key West. While in Key West, the dessert restaurant Better than Sex is a must.

Once back inland, I would take them to Fratelli La Buffala for authentic Neapolitan pizza and stroll down South Pointe. Beach day at Bills Baggs, with lunch at Patagonia. I would spend a day in the Design District and eat at Sofia or Mandolin. I would take them to Coconut Grove for some shopping, people watching, and eat at Planta or Bayshore Club. We would spend our nights at Wynwood and Brickell. At Wynwood, we would eat at Spanglish and visit La Tropical. Make an ice cream stop at Quore Gelato. In Brickell, we would eat have drinks and apps at Rosa Sky.  We would dance the night away at Black Bird and Blue Martini.

I almost forgot Calle Ocho! I would take them to La Esquina de la Fama for the best mojitos, Ball and Chain for great live music and dancing, and Old Havana for a meal.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother–she believes I can do anything I set my mind to do. There’s not an idea, project, or challenge I discuss with her that she does not think I am capable of accomplishing. I believe everyone needs at least one person in their lives that believes they can walk on water. Someone that believes in them even when they are having a hard time believing in themselves.
