We had the good fortune of connecting with Milyssa Rose and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Milyssa, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
I think people see the glamorous and superficial lives of artists. The industry is full of people that are not what they seem. You have to keep your guard up. Make sure you have your business in order. It’s not a place for the weak.
I could go on for days. It’s not write a song, make a video and boom you’ve made it. It’s a hustle. It’s a grind. It’s a lot of rejection. It’s a business. Treat it as such..

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an entrepreneur, vocalist, songwriter, entertainer, model, and actress. What sets me apart from other others is I don’t follow the norm of what people think I should be. I stand for what I believe in. I would rather be myself than try to conform to a cookie-cutter artist’s image. I don’t play it safe. I take chances, challenge and push boundaries for myself. I am always trying to top myself. I am my competition.

I got where I am through hard work, determination, tears, heartache, and determination. I never lost focus on my dream. It was not easy. It is hard to be a female in the music business. It is a boys club. You have to be tough. You can’t let people walk all over you. I battle depression and anxiety. Sometimes, it is difficult for me to be in the right mind frame. I use music as my outlet. My therapy. I create not only for me but for others. No matter what you are fighting internally, you can make it. You must keep an eye on the prize, hustle hard, and perfect your craft. Never stop growing or learning.
My engineer and friend, D Cox, passed a year ago. I almost quit music. D was my mentor, my cheerleader, my everything music. When he passed, I felt like I was done for. He used to tell me one day; I would not work with him because I would blow up and work with other engineers. I never saw that day coming, and it did. D came to me in a dream and told me we weren’t done yet. I got a mic, learned to record myself, and found a new engineer through a mutual friend /artist I featured on a track with. It was fate. I want the world to know that you can do anything you want in life. You can be successful. It doesn’t matter where you started. You can achieve anything. The key is never to give up. I know it sounds cliche, but it is true. The people that become successful have a long list of failures and rejections. Keep going!!!! Your time is coming.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love Crystal River, Florida. I would take them to see Three Sister Springs and kayak to look for manatees. After, we can have a bbq and just hang out. If there is a bubble tea spot near. We have to go. If not I will make my Matcha, Brown Sugar, and Caramel drink. I am pretty low-key. I think my wild party days are long gone.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband, Tony Blanca. He’s been instrumental in my journey. He’s the catch all of Milyssa Rose.
