We had the good fortune of connecting with Joao Vergara and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Joao, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success is the control I have over my mind. Racing is extremely challenging and can be frustrating since there are a lot of moving parts and team players involved. I’ve made it top priority to keep my emotions and feelings in check so that I don’t waste unnecessary energy on “what could have been”. I’m always focused on the next challenge regardless of todays outcome. Another thing I believe helps me is to stick to a routine so that I can make sure to fit everything I have to do in my schedule. I study full time and have to train on and off the track, so it’s imperative to stay organized and make sure my time is spent wisely.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m a professional race car driver. I was born into a racing family and started racing go karts when I was 9 years old and haven’t stopped since. It’s been a great journey filled with ups and downs but we are just getting started as I am debuting in the Lucas Oil Formula Series this year after winning a full sponsorship to race. It wasn’t easy but I had a great team to support me and get me ready as well as help me along the way.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned so far has been to always listen to everyone’s opinion and advice because you never know what someone can add to your knowledge. Every feedback is important and necessary. It’s cliche but you learn something new everyday, and this is something I always remember.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The first thing I would do is take my friend to the beach since miami has the best beaches. I would take them to eat at Makoto at Bal Harbour Shops for lunch, and order pizza Mister 01 for dinner. If the weather is nice I would literally take them jet skiing everyday- which is pretty much my favorite thing to do in this city. I would also show them the miami skyline at night, which is one of my favorite things about this city.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to dedicate this shout out to my number one inspiration: My favorite race car driver and coach, my uncle Ozz Negri. He has always been supportive and gone above and beyond for me. I am so grateful for his endless dedication to guiding me.
