We had the good fortune of connecting with Anthony Fazzinga and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Anthony, why did you pursue a creative career?
At an early age drawing was all I knew. As a baby I would just scribble on what the nearest object, as a young kid before, after and even during school I’d be doodling. Art was always going to be my future. I can remember it being my favorite activity. As a young adult working landscape construction, I wasn’t necessarily focusing on art as my career path, but I knew I liked to be hands on. I just needed some inspiration to focus that energy into something in the creative space and that happened around 2015 where I started painting again, which allowed me to refocus on a lost passion. I spent the next few years painting, drawing, sculpting, jotting down goals, dreaming of one day becoming an established artist with gallery shows. I know the question is “why”, but being creative is only thing I know and love; so there never was why there just was.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I’d say what sets me apart from others is that everyone leads a different life; no two are the same. With that said, my art is a direct reflection of my life experience, emotions, thoughts, etc. That answer might sound like the easy way out, but isn’t art subjective? The way I see it is that all art sets itself apart from others. I do, however, also have some “signatures” I like to use when painting or drawing. I have a figure I drew when I was 4 years old that I discovered about 8 years ago, it really inspired me; so, I’ve trademarked him and use him as a version of myself in everything I do. Getting where I am today wasn’t easy, and I can’t say a life in art is easy either. It takes a lot of confidence and persistence to keep going in this industry. There will always be disappointments, opportunities you didn’t get but ultimately, it’s about you keep applying yourself and putting yourself out there. Art is super exposing, it really does show the world the most intimate parts of you, and that’s not easy, but honestly, I can’t picture my life any other way.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well hopefully we’re talking about Art Week in Miami, because while cliché, it really is my favorite time of year here. First, we’ve got to grab the best Cuban coffee at Suite Habana Café, cold brew black and a colada to share. Then, were going to hit the beach, my best friends are still in New York and those beaches are subpar, or the ones that aren’t, are far. Let’s face it, most likely they’re going to need a tan. Then we plan to hit all the tents on the beach; but Untitled is my favorite, I’ve never left that tent without being eager to go home and create something. After all the walking we’d have to hit dinner at my favorite restaurant Doma in Wynwood. It is by far my go to restaurant. The food is top of the top and the team there are like family, and it shows in every aspect of the experience, drinks, food, hospitality; you name it they are the best. But really, it’s hard to nail down the perfect week, because Miami has such a diverse culture, that you can easily plan a day to match the vibe.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
It’s hard to give shoutout to all the people who have impacted me over the years and steered (or really pushed) me down this path, but ultimately, I’d like to dedicate this shoutout to my parents, Tony and Chrissy. They’ve always allowed me to express myself in the most genuine ways. Growing up they created a space that allowed me to be my true self and explore any passion I may have has in pursuit of happiness. I come from a family of hard work, both my father and my uncle were in landscape construction, so I was always surrounded by hard work and dedication. My mother always applied the appropriate amount of pressure to ensure I had the right education and discipline so I would be able to achieve any dream I may have had. If it were not for my mom keeping all my old drawings, I wouldn’t have rediscovered the artistic drive that I had lost sight of along the way.
