We had the good fortune of connecting with Luke Kruger-Aimone and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Luke, why did you pursue a creative career?
It comes down to having the same effect on someone else that my inspirations had on me. When hit something I like in the music I’m making, it’s not just exciting because I think it’s cool- it’s exciting because I feel something that I can share with other people. I’m making music me, but at the same time, it’s for everyone, and if I don’t feel that I can connect with other people through my music, I don’t really think I’m doing my job.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I consider my newest pieces to be the most interesting music I’ve ever written, and I honestly don’t feel that there are any artists (particularly in the mainstream) making anything that sounds quite like it. That is not to say it is better or worse, simply different, and I pride myself in making such an amalgamation of styles that it takes on its own genre.

Getting to where I’m at now is easy in the sense that I’ve never doubted how important music is to me. The difficulty comes from hesitating to try new methods and working with new people. It can feel strange shifting from the way we are comfortable creating things, but collaborating with the right people makes it easier than ever.

Find people who are going to force you to do something you’ve never done. That’s how you truly get to where you want to be.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Definitely Prospect Park, especially in spring or summer for a walk or bike ride. Absolutely gorgeous, less crowded than Central Park, easy to reach on the train. Eat at Virgil’s, by far the best bbq spot in the city, then avoid times square by heading back to the Bryant Park library, which is absolutely gorgeous.

For fall and winter I’d highly recommend a walk around Greenpoint, for donuts and bagels from Peter Pan and hot chocolate from essentially anywhere in that neighborhood. I don’t know what it is, but they’ve cracked the hot chocolate code.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My friends and musical colleagues, Dazay Burnett (https://www.instagram.com/vagabondznyc/) Preston Douglas (https://www.instagram.com/culturebitch/) and my girlfriend Flavia Daniele (https://www.instagram.com/pasteltraces/). These three are all incredibly talented and driven in their respective fields, and I they are genuinely the three people that have pushed me to the point I’m at artistically today. Without them, I’m not certain I would have found the motivation to continue pursuing music as a profession.
