We had the good fortune of connecting with Brutal Bill Marquez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brutal Bill, how do you think about risk?
I’ve pretty much taken risks my entire career as an Artist, Music Producer, & DJ you have to in order to separate yourself from what everyone else is doing. I’m probably one of the a few music producers if any, that will produce a slow ballad and then a late night Techno stomper. House Music, Jazz, Hip Hop, Techno, Tech House, R&B, * Theatre I love producing it all!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
It definitely wasn’t easy and everyday is still a challenge especially in today’s quick paced music scene. What sets me and my brand Sektor Music Group (SMG) which encompasses Sektor Rekords, Sektor Black, 12inch Rekords & Sektor Recording Studios apart is true commitment to the project and the diversity in the Music I produce, engineer and release on my labels. I treat every project as a challenge and I’ve learned patience, attention to detail and quality is everything! I’m most proud of my remix work with The Doors, Pet Shop Boys and Recording & Producing for Ghost Face Killa & Raekwon from The Wu Tang Clan as well as the continued success and growth on my record labels.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m a Huge New York Yankees fan and was born in the Bronx so Yankee Stadium would be first. Then one of my favorites restaurants “London Lennies” in Queens for incredible seafood! The Edge Observation Deck in midtown for the best views of the City and just walking around the and riding the subway around is the best way to explore what the City has to offer!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many great people who have supported me throughout the years but there’s really only one person that’s responsible for me becoming involved in making Music and becoming a Music Producer and that’s my childhood friend and mentor John “JMC” Chan. From the age of about 16 I followed him and his Atari ST all over the place learning all things music, learning to program drums specifically on the Roland TR707, 727, 808, 909, learning music arrangement and more, I could go on. One of the best times of my life!
