We had the good fortune of connecting with Priscila Zoullas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Priscila, how does your business help the community?
OIYA is a woman-owned handmade accessories company, with a global outlook. Every time you buy a product, you are feeding a child for a day. When you wear our jewelry, you are committing to social responsibility and global action. We donate to ShareTheMeal with every purchase made. ShareTheMeal is an initiative of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). Each year, WFP reaches 80 million people in around 80 countries. WFP’s administrative costs are among the lowest in the non-profit sector – with 90% of donations going directly to WFP operations that are building a world with zero hunger.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I worked in the fashion industry for a long time and always wanted to own my own business. As a small business, OIYA has experience challenges in the beginning, but it has never discouraged the OIYA team because we want to grow organically. I am thankful to have a supportive team around me, such as my assistant, Imani, my bracelet designer, Anna, and my photographers to help with the process. I always tell myself to never give up and to go slow with a clear path and positive energy in order to reach success.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Whether its with the family or with my amigas, I always know the best places to go in Miami! For a peaceful walk, we’re going to the Fairchild Tropical Botanical Garden. For shopping, we must visit the Design District. For art, visiting the Rubell Museum would be an experience you won’t forget. For the best food, we can get greek food at The Mandolin, lunch at Leku and Soho House, and a fine Italian dinner at Boia De.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
When I first began creating OIYA, it was important to have a charitable component involved in the foundation of the company. I wanted to do more than sell and create accessories. Having a mission of giving back led me to choosing ShareTheMeal and I am so glad to be in partnership with them!
