We had the good fortune of connecting with Lourdes Milian and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lourdes, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind the success of Lourdes Milian Productions has been good ethics and accountability. It has been about being reliable not just with my business, but with myself. It has meant following through with concepts or ideas even if in the end they fail– it’s the failures that have helped me learn and grow. It’s about never leaving things half way or incomplete once you start, and pushing through no matter the circumstance. It is also leading by example. I want my team to always understand that your success doesn’t only come if you are really good at something; it will come only if it is aligned with integrity and the pursuit of striving to be great.
Please tell us more about your career. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way.
My career choice has been one of the best decisions I have made. It has allowed me to meet so many different people, learn their stories, and celebrate with them during one of the most important chapters of their lives. While the rewards are so fulfilling, it hasn’t always been easy. Opening a business is an amazing opportunity that comes with big responsibilities and sometimes, those responsibilities come with quite a bit of added stress. The growing pains were real, and they played a key role in building experience and a strong brand. I am so proud of the small team I’ve built. They are smart, knowledgeable, passionate about making people happy, trusting, and full of integrity; all qualities I find to be extremely important when you decide to venture into the world of special events. An important trait that sets us apart is how consistent we are when producing successful events; we set the bar very high even for ourselves, to make sure we knock it out of the ballpark every single time. I have always welcomed the complexity and even the most challenging of events, and I want the world to know that although we just celebrated our 15th year in business, the best is yet to come.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love my city! It is absolutely magical and has so many amazing spots to explore and love. Miami is a melting pot of culture reflected in food, art, and it’s people. Must sees are Wynwood Walls, Miami Design District, the beaches, and some amazing historical spots like the popular Vizcaya Museum and Gardens in Coconut Grove. Outdoor dining with beautiful views are pretty much everywhere– one of my favorite spots is La Mar by Gaston Acurio at the Mandarin Oriental Miami. It’s peruvian-fusion fare with breathtaking city and calm bay views.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
It’s been over 15 years of business and boy are there so many people to give credit to who have been a part of the success! My business began as a small pop up store inside the reputable bridal boutique Chic Parisien in Coral Gables; it was thanks to that opportunity that I was able to make the connections I needed to continue growing and branching my business from retail into the event industry. As a mom of 3, I could not have made any of this happen without the support of my husband and family who have cheered me on since day one. They are the real MVPs who have allowed me to follow my passion full force by offering to carry the load at home, especially while I am away. Lastly, my clients are an amazing circle of people who fill my heart with gratitude. Their trust is everything, and I feel so fortunate that my business continues to grow because of them.
