We had the good fortune of connecting with Chibria West and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chibria, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thoughts behind starting my business is that one I love doing makeup. It genuinely brings me so much joy to be in a field where I am able to be apart of the behind the scenes of so many beautiful and special moments in the lives of my clients. I also love that through my business I am encouraging people, I uplift them and I enhance their confidence by using my brush. I’ve always wanted to help people and now I have a job where I am constantly of service to others.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is different from other’s because I pride myself into being able to naturally enhance the beauty in each face. I use my tools and techniques to create the desired look while still maintaining the client’s natural appearance. It took me time but I’m constantly improving. I believe that continuing education is so important because there is always something new to learn. It’s so important to be teachable even though makeup has always been easy for me, there have been moments where I have made mistakes, chosen the wrong shade or just the struggle with my confidence and second guessed myself but at the end of the day if you are putting in the work to learn and you keep trying, you will get better. I’ve been doing makeup for 14 years and my biggest take away is that my brand, my passion is my gift and it doesn’t matter that there are 500 other people in the city that share the same gift. Mine is my own and I’m putting my all into it to give my clients an unforgettable experience and makeup that will last them all night long.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I were to have friend visit we would probably spend some time at my house sitting by the pool on and off throughout the week together. We would go out to downtown Cape Coral and Fort Myers go out to a few bars to enjoy the vibe, if we planned it correctly we would go to an event with live music and dance and sing. We would definitely go to the beach on one of days and jet ski and play all the water sports, stay by one of the hotels on the water and visit their bar and enjoy each others company.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people who have influenced me and my work. My mother would be the first person I think of. She is a simple woman when it comes to her makeup application but I remarry being young and sitting on her toilet watching her put on her mascara while getting ready for work and I just loved her process and the way it made her feel. Going forward she was the one who saw my love makeup and pushed me to go to cosmetology school to learn more. While I was there I was inspired daily by the talent. I’ve been blessed along the way to constantly be influenced and inspired by others.
