We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Suarez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jessica, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My journey to starting my own business as a makeup artist and hairstylist was deeply rooted in my passion for helping others feel confident and comfortable in their own skin. I believe makeup should not be something to be feared, but rather embraced as a powerful tool for self-expression.

Through my work, I aim to show that makeup can be both impactful and unique, allowing each person’s individuality to shine through. I wanted to create a space where people feel empowered, beautiful, and unapologetically themselves. This vision drove me to establish my business and share my skills with those around me, transforming not just their appearance but also their self-esteem.

It’s incredibly rewarding to witness the transformation in my clients, seeing them radiate confidence and happiness. This is what fuels my passion and keeps me dedicated to my craft every day.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets my art apart is my ability to truly listen and understand the vision my clients have for their looks. I pride myself on creating personalized transformations that align with their individual style and preferences. One of my greatest strengths is my skill in color matching, ensuring that every client’s unique skin tone is complemented perfectly, even if we’re meeting for the first time.

Reaching this point in my career hasn’t been easy. It took a lot of early mornings, endless cups of coffee, and countless hours of training. My hands have seen their fair share of cuts, and my fingertips have been stained with color dye more times than I can count. The journey has been filled with tears, but also with moments of immense pride.

The challenges I faced were numerous, and each one taught me valuable lessons. I learned that not everyone will be your ideal client, but those who are will be loyal and appreciative. Listening to critiques, practicing on myself and friends, and constantly striving to improve have been key in overcoming obstacles. My mentors played a significant role in my development, offering guidance and support through trial and error.

I want the world to know that behind my brand is someone who believes in the simplicity and power of makeup to boost confidence. My story began as a young girl who wanted to be different and make a difference in someone’s special moment, even if just for one day. Seeing the transformation in my clients and the confidence it brings them is what I am most passionate and proud about

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In my view, some of the most fun, interesting, and exciting things to check out revolve around three of my favorite activities: brunch , dancing and boating.

As a Latin girl by heart, old school salsa music gives me happy feet. Love going to to Ball n Chain down on 8th Street.

But when it’s time to relax and take in the beauty of nature, nothing beats a boating trip down in the Keys. There’s something magical about the steady pace of life on the water, where you can simply enjoy the company of those around you.

When it comes to brunch, it’s the perfect opportunity to dress up a bit, hang out with friends, relax, and chat without feeling rushed. One of my top picks is Le Chick in Wynwood. The vibe there is fantastic—it’s trendy, artistic, and the food is amazing.

These three activities offer wonderful ways to connect with people and enjoy some of the best parts of life!
