We had the good fortune of connecting with Mariia Otte-Yastremska and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mariia, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
I think with age I understood that happiness is in small things. The more I’m appreciative of little moments, the happier I am. My work makes me very happy, when I’m on set I feel fulfilled, excited. It’s really nice to meet new people and be a part of creative process. Definitely my investment into my mental health which is my conscious every day choice: meditation, therapy, yoga, workout. I’m a big believer that happiness it’s something is in our hands to create. I love dancing it is something that would make me happy for no reason.

Please tell us more about your career. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I think my dedication to my craft and ability to always learn and improve would definitely set me apart from others. Modeling and acting is very competitive so my career wasn’t an easy journey at all. I started at 17 years old which I don’t think I was honestly ready to be a model. My biggest struggle was to keep myself very slim because at that time modeling standards were a lot different then now it a lot more diverse nowadays. Which I ended up with a food disorder that lasted for around 5 years. It was a long fight. I decided to invest in the acting skills and turn in to actress because it was exhausting to keep the right measurements. I think the biggest lesson I learned is that your career shouldn’t be worth of my health. It’s important to love your body image the way it is and nourish it as a temple. I think as a Ukrainian I have this huge will power in me that helped me got out of it, some people unfortunately could be in it for life. As well there should be more attention put in to this type of disorder in the society, I think this problem is underestimated. I still have a huge passion for modeling and acting and I think I enjoy it a lot more because of all of the obstacles that I went true.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Shopping in Miami Design District or Brickell City Center. Visiting Wynwood walls, going to the beach, taking a pilates class or play tennis. I think in Miami is so important to get on the water so take a boat ride or jet ski it’s definitely a good idea. Restaurant scene is amazing here. My favorites are: Uchi, Bellini, MIA Market, Macchialina.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband George Otte. His love and support always helps me to keep going and entrepreneurial mindset inspires me and motivates. In terms of the book is Rhonda Bern “Magic” it helped me to develop a strong gratitude skill.
