Meet Fernando Gomez | Orthopedic Surgeon

We had the good fortune of connecting with Fernando Gomez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Fernando, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My business began with my career in Venezuela, where I studied medicine and specialized in orthopedic surgery. I worked as an orthopedic surgeon for more than 10 years and with every year, I learned more about my patients, their conditions, and how to best treat them. As I became more familiar and skilled with my specialty, I began to notice that many of my patients also complained about joint pains or suffered from arthritis and related conditions. This is where the idea behind my research was born, out of my curiosity and desire to help improve my patients’ health and quality of life. In Venezuela, I kickstarted research based on patients with these pathologies with the goal of creating a medication that can help regenerate cartilage and slow down the process of aging joints. Throughout many years we studied the causes of joint-related conditions, the possible factors that influence their development and prognosis, and what components could help alleviate them.

Eventually, my world took a turn and I immigrated to the United States, but that did not stop my passion for helping my patients. My research continued and concluded here in the U.S. and it resulted in what Cartinew is today. This is a medication which has been 12 years in the making and it is a culmination of years of hard work, dedication, and extensive research in order to create a medication that can help improve people’s joint conditions and even prevent the development of such ailments.

Even though Cartinew started as an idea and a dream of mine, I have been able to nurture this project into reality, transforming research data and results into a physical product that can actually cause a change. My intention has always been to help my patients, and with this medication I am able to help patients not just in the U.S. but in Venezuela as well. I believe that Cartinew represents the most important aspect of what it means to be a doctor: contributing to the research community with the purpose of discovering and improving treatments for the public.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Our medication’s success is rooted in the fact that it is a 100% organic supplement based on stem cells, telomeres, collagen, MK-7 and biotin. Its orthobiologic properties help treat diseases like arthritis, osteoarthritis, chondromalacia, etc., and it has seen great success in patients with arthritis. Patients with this pathology who start taking Cartinew are able to stop taking steroids, which are highly damaging to the body and health, and the medication has helped these patients with joint mobility and pain. Our greatest pride is the easy accessibility to the medication and its great impact on patients’ lives throughout the United States and Venezuela. Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As a person who has lived in Doral for more than 10 years, I would always recommend to a friend to visit any Venezuelan restaurants for a delicious breakfast. I pride myself in my rich culture and Doral is a Venezuelan hub! Anyone would enjoy a delicious empanada or tequeno as a quick meal, or even a cozy cafe con leche or a refreshing papelon con limon. Then I would take them to my favorite pastry shops in the area, such as Saludable y Sabroso or Keik. For entertainment, any of the malls in the area such as the Dolphin Mall or the International Mall would be perfect for a shopping trip. To end the trip, I would take my friend to a beach, since Miami is well-known for its beautiful beaches and hot weather.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to first thank my family for the constant and unconditional support they have always provided me. My mother was my foundation for my passion and dedication towards this project, since she has always been my role model as both a researcher and doctor. Now, my wife and daughter have both been incredibly supportive of this project and encouraged me to go forward with this idea. Finally, I would like to dedicate this accomplishment to all Venezuelans who had to immigrate here, since this medication is an ode to all our dedication and hard work to show our worth in this country.
