We had the good fortune of connecting with Kendra Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kendra, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I chose a creative career because it’s the best way for me to express myself. Growing up, I was extremely shy, and I still have shy tendencies today. Many people thought I’d be a great fit for a more structured role, like accounting, because of my reserved nature. But deep down, I always knew that creativity was how I truly wanted to connect with the world. My creativity has always been a way for me to communicate, and it’s something I can talk about for hours. It’s not just a career choice for me—it’s a form of self-expression that allows me to share my thoughts, passions, and perspective in a way that feels natural and fulfilling.

What should our readers know about your business?
n 2020, while completing my senior year of college in Indianapolis, I launched Spring Tyde with a line of handmade body butters. What began as a small passion project quickly grew as I discovered how much people valued natural, high-quality skincare.

By 2023, I became a licensed Esthetician in both Indiana and Florida, expanding my business to include facials, waxing, and body treatments. After relocating to North Lauderdale, FL, I began offering these services alongside my body butters, providing clients with a complete skincare experience.

Today, Spring Tyde is a trusted brand in North Lauderdale, known for offering personalized treatments and products that help clients feel confident in their own skin. I’m incredibly proud of how far I’ve come—from college student to licensed esthetician and business owner—and I’m excited to continue growing while helping others embrace the power of self-care.

Being a business owner has been one of the most challenging, yet rewarding, roles I’ve ever taken on. I launched my business just two weeks before the pandemic, which forced me to adapt quickly to keep things going. Though it wasn’t easy, I was determined not to let my dream fail. Over time, I learned that the art of pivoting and continuous learning would be key to overcoming any obstacles. This mindset has helped me navigate the ups and downs of entrepreneurship and has been instrumental in my journey.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
As much as I love Miami, I’d actually spend most of the trip in Broward. I’d kick things off with brunch at Jet Runway Café in Fort Lauderdale—it’s such a fun spot, especially with planes flying by. After that, we’d go to Sawgrass Mall for some shopping.

The next day, I’d take them to Pompano Beach (it’s my favorite spot, super chill and peaceful) for a swim, then grab lunch at Oceanic, which has great food and views right on the water.

If they’re in the mood for something a little more cultural, we’d check out the Bonnet House Museum & Gardens. Then, I’d take them back to Miami to explore the Frost Museum of Science and stroll around Bayside Marketplace. We’d finish the trip with a fun night out clubbing downtown to experience Miami’s nightlife.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to take a moment to give a special shout-out to my grandmother. She’s been my rock through it all—always there for me during my lowest moments. Whenever I’m doubting myself or feeling down, I can count on her to remind me of who I am and how far I’ve come. She’s supported every creative decision I’ve made, even when others urged me to take a “safer” path. My grandmother is the reason I keep pushing toward my goals; she’s always been there to shine a light on my strengths while encouraging me to keep striving for better. Her unwavering belief in me is something I carry with me every day, and I’m forever grateful for her love and support.
