Meet Lisa Liles | Movement Specialist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa Liles and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lisa, why did you pursue a creative career?
I’ve always used some form of art as an outlet, even as a kid.
I would say this path pursued me, and I decided to steer the ship.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m more full of art than I ever give myself credit for.
I don’t take compliments easily, but I’ve always been proud of comments made throughout my career about the flow of my classes.
I’ve always loved the idea of creating routine, writing, drawing – anything that gave me a way to create my own adventure. After 20 years of teaching, and a 15 year writing break – I finally took the leap. Within the last year I’ve now had 7 poems published, and have salvaged clients in every city I’ve ever worked in by creating a virtual community that still provides support and privacy. Together but separate, as I like to say.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This question is tricky.
I actually pride myself on the few friends that I have that can come to my home and do NOTHING. Providing a place of refuge and safety has always been my second form of art.
I help women that are coming out of domestic violence situations, and help them find that. I’ve been in fight or flight for most of my life, and there’s something about having a cozy home – yet everything at your fingertips, that makes some friendships less exhausting than others.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mentor, David! Our path has been windy, but where we are today and what he’s taught me makes me realize I had to go through what I did to get here.
Without my knowledge – I was hired to take over his job, in a new city.
When he moved back, an unwarranted war started between us.
Once we both finally realized we were more alike than we knew, and removed our egos – the real journey began.
