We had the good fortune of connecting with Dardan Bela and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dardan, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
For me, starting 1331 Recordz was about filling a gap in Miami’s music scene. I wanted to create a space where independent artists—especially those from out of state—could feel at home, connect with other creatives, and have real opportunities to grow. I’ve always believed in the power of community, and I saw the need for a true hub where artists could network, perform, and develop their craft.

Beyond just music, I wanted to integrate technology and innovation. That’s why we became the first recording studio in history to launch an NFT collection that gives discounts on studio time, and we’ve embraced crypto as a form of payment. We’re not just a studio; we’re a forward-thinking movement, creating opportunities through both art and technology..

What should our readers know about your business?
It was extremely hard—it took years of sacrifice, risk, and resilience. I put everything on the line and gave it my all. The biggest thing I did was simply not give up. There were times when all the odds were against me, and I had to make tough choices.

I even slept in my office just so I could afford to keep 1331 Recordz going. Instead of getting a place to live, I chose to invest everything into the company. As you can imagine, having a studio space in Miami isn’t cheap, and balancing that with personal expenses was nearly impossible in the beginning. But I was so committed to my vision that I went all in.

Now, things are different—we’re growing, people are recognizing 1331 Recordz, and we’re positioning ourselves to help artists in ways I once only dreamed of. But it wasn’t always like this. In the early days, I was broke and struggling. I’m still not where I want to be, but I’m in a much better place than before.

A lot of people ask what it takes to be successful. But I’ve learned that it’s not just about what you need to do—it’s about what you need to remove. I sacrificed going out, vacations, and a lot of things that didn’t align with my goals. At times, I questioned if it was worth it, especially being away from family. But then I’d remind myself—I’m doing this for the bigger picture. I want to retire my family one day and give them a life we never had growing up.

My drive for success started young. My family lived paycheck to paycheck—not by choice, but because we were a family of six who had come from a war-stricken country. They did their best, and that stuck with me. It made me refuse to accept being broke. It made me refuse to settle.

1331 Recordz is more than a business—it’s a movement built on sacrifice, dedication, and a vision to uplift artists while pushing the boundaries of music and technology. If there’s one thing I want people to know about my story, it’s that anything is possible when you stay committed, block out distractions, and refuse to give up.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting Miami for a week, I’d make sure they got the full experience—great food, live music, networking, and some time to relax. Here’s how I’d plan it out:

Day 1: Welcome to Miami – Tacos & Live Music

Lunch: The Taco Stand – My favorite spot for tacos, hands down. It’s a must-visit.
Evening: Head to Savage Labs to catch live music and soak in Miami’s creative energy.
Late Night: Stop by The Syndicate, a kava bar attached to Savage Labs. Kava bars are great for meeting like-minded entrepreneurs and creatives.

Day 2: Brickell Vibes & Rooftop Views

Brunch: Moxie’s in Brickell – A great spot for Italian food and a solid brunch.
Afternoon: Explore Brickell City Centre for shopping and city views.
Evening: Drinks at Sugar, a rooftop bar with one of the best skyline views in Miami.

Day 3: Beach Day & Sushi Feast

Morning: South Beach – Whether you want to relax or hit the bars, it’s the perfect mix of chill and excitement.
Lunch/Dinner: Kan Sushi – They offer unlimited sushi in a super nice setting.

Day 4: Exploring Art & Culture

Morning: Visit the Wynwood Walls – A must-see for street art lovers.
Afternoon: Walk around Wynwood, check out local coffee shops and boutiques.
Evening: Grab drinks and catch some more live performances at Lagniappe, a laid-back wine bar with live jazz.

Day 5: Outdoor Adventure & Hidden Gems

Morning: Kayaking or paddleboarding at Oleta River State Park.
Afternoon: Explore Little Havana, grab a cafecito, and soak in the Cuban culture.
Evening: Dinner at Coyo Taco, then head to their hidden speakeasy in the back.

Day 6: Luxury & Nightlife

Morning: Chill at The Standard Spa for some relaxation.
Evening: Dinner at Carbone (if we can get a reservation).
Late Night: Hit up E11EVEN or LIV for a full Miami nightlife experience.

Day 7: Wrap-Up & Relax

Brunch: Greenstreet Café in Coconut Grove for a laid-back morning.
Afternoon: A drive down to Key Biscayne for one last scenic view before heading out.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, I want to dedicate this shoutout to my father and my brother. My father came from Kosovo, a war-stricken country, and worked relentlessly to build a better life. His work ethic and perseverance have been a huge inspiration for me. My brother and I were always competing, but in a way that pushed us both to work harder and strive for more.

I also want to give a special shoutout to Andre De Castro—one of the first people who truly believed in 1331 Recordz and joined the company in 2024. His support has been invaluable.

And of course, I have to recognize my team: Simon Howard, our COO; Osaze Moore, our CTO; Kenneth Medlock, our creative director; Omari and Marcel Paba as well. Each of them plays a crucial role in the success of 1331, and together, we continue to make strides. This journey wouldn’t be possible without them.
