We had the good fortune of connecting with Dontae “DON” Fletcher and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dontae “DON”, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Growing up, I never felt like I was good at anything. I often struggled to find where I fit in or what made me stand out. But when I discovered art—specifically through beauty, creativity, and self-expression—it was like something finally clicked. It was the first time I felt seen, capable, and confident. Pursuing a creative career became less about making money or being popular, and more about healing, connecting, and helping others feel beautiful and empowered in their own skin. Art gave me purpose when I felt lost, and now I get to use that gift to inspire and uplift others.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is rooted in transformation—not just in how someone looks, but in how they feel about themselves. As a makeup artist, I see beauty as a form of empowerment. What sets me apart is my ability to enhance natural features while creating a polished, radiant, and confident version of every client. I believe makeup should amplify, not mask, and I bring that intentionality into every look I create.

I’m most proud of the connections I’ve made through my work. Seeing someone look in the mirror and light up—that’s what fuels me. Getting to this point professionally wasn’t easy. It took years of consistency, sacrifice, and constantly pushing myself to improve. It wasn’t always easy; everyone isn’t always so nice—including these celebrities. There were moments of doubt, rejection, and being overlooked. But I chose to keep showing up, to keep learning, and to let the challenges shape me, not stop me.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is to know your worth, even when others don’t see it yet. Stay true to your gift and your vision. What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that everything I do comes from a place of love, passion, and purpose. My story is one of resilience, growth, and beauty—from the inside out.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting, I’d make sure they had an unforgettable week! For dinner, we’d definitely hit up Prime 112—it’s one of my favorites. The food is always consistent, the vibe is upscale but relaxed, and it’s a great spot to kick off the trip. During the day, we’d spend time at Soho House South Beach. I have a membership there, so we’d enjoy the pool, chill at the beach, sip on a Picante on the Rocks, and have a delicious lunch overlooking the ocean.

Since I like to stay active, we’d work out together Monday through Thursday and hit a boxing session on Friday—gotta keep the energy high! In between, we’d explore local spots, maybe check out some art galleries, hit a few rooftop lounges for sunset, and enjoy Miami’s nightlife. It’s all about good food, good vibes, and making memories.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Absolutely—there’s no way I’d be where I am today without the love, support, and encouragement of the people around me. First and foremost, I want to thank my family and close friends who believed in me, even when I didn’t fully believe in myself. To every client who has trusted me with their face, to those who referred me, shared my work, or spoke my name in rooms I hadn’t entered yet—thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your support means everything. And to my online community, thank you for showing up for me consistently and reminding me why I do what I do. This journey wouldn’t be the same without you.”
