Meet Noy Levi | Experimental Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Noy Levi and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Noy, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
Legacy is such a strong word. It feels a little too early to answer that question, but, funny enough, I’ve had my answer prepared for years. I want people to remember the magic I created with my work. I want to know that I’ve retired and there are still people singing their praises after I’ve gone. I believe there is a reason I’m doing all this work. It’s just a matter of time before I realize my purpose.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is very colorful and vibrant. It’s all about mental health, love, unity, and spirituality. I like using stick figures in my work because they’re very generic, and I honestly feel like they haven’t been used to their full potential for storytelling purposes. I used stick figures to tell a story for the first time in a Valentine’s Day cartoon I made last year, literally titled “Stick Figure Coffee Date.” I loved that so much that I made another short film with two stick figures as the main characters called “John Doe Needs A Friend.” It actually was part of the Savoir-faire Short Film Festival back in February, an opportunity I am so grateful for. I wasn’t always drawing stick figures. In fact, I wasn’t always an artist. At first, I was strictly a poet. I started uploading poetry to Instagram in January of 2021, then in October of that year, I published my first mini poetry collection called “La Vie D’Amour.” Then, that next February, in 2022, I released my second poetry collection, titled “Pacts & Promises.” That whole process of promoting that book taught me so much about defending my work and really toughened me up. Through it all, I found my love for filmmaking when I wrote “Boy Friend (with a loveless space)” and decided to make it into a short film, spontaneously. I’d say that I’m the proudest of “Boy Friend” because it’s the only poem I’ve ever written that still makes me emotional when I recite it. I don’t think that’ll ever change. Overall, this journey has gifted me with some exciting twists and turns so far. I can’t wait to see where the road takes me. Especially with this new poetry that’s on its way. I’m leaving the heartbreak behind and showing the world a more adventurous side of me. It’s strange, but I’ve been wanting to take this leap for a while. I want the people reading this to know that this is just the beginning of my story. There’s so much more to come. I can feel it. As always, I’d just like to thank everyone for their support. It’s awesome!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d definitely recommend checking out Tea & Poets in South Miami. It’s such a lively, vibrant place that gives local talent (including myself) and small businesses the platform they deserve to fully express themselves. I did my first poetry reading there & I have so many good memories connected to that place, it’s insane. It’s located in the Shops at Sunset Place, which is a beautiful plaza. Wynwood Walls is also a must-see for tourists. I’ve been there a few times & I’ve always appreciated the graffiti and different art in the surrounding areas. I’ve heard it’s got good nightlife, depending on where you go. I’ve never been to the clubs, so I don’t have any specific recommendations, but, trust the Internet! Those two are honestly the only places that come to mind. I will emphasize Tea & Poets, though, because it’s a truly magnificent hang out spot that everyone deserves to visit at least once.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to dedicate this Shoutout to my parents, Dror & Kinneret Levi. They are my number one fans and have encouraged me to share my talents with the world since I was a little girl. They deserve every ounce of recognition and gratitude that comes their way. I love them so much.
