We had the good fortune of connecting with Arianna Bladon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Arianna, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I decided to step out on my own, the question I kept circling back to was: “What does *ideal* learning actually look like for a child?” After nearly two decades inside traditional systems—as a classroom teacher, curriculum specialist, and even an administrator—I could see both the promise *and* the limitations. Class sizes were growing, assessments were getting higher-stakes, and the space for curiosity kept shrinking. Parents were coming to me after school hours asking how to keep their kids motivated, and teachers were quietly admitting they wished they had more room to individualize.

So I sketched out a different model on a legal pad: micro-sized classes (no more than ten), expert teachers who knew every student’s quirks, and a curriculum that felt more like an exploratory journey than a checklist. I talked to dozens of families, ran the numbers, and realized that a homeschool-co-op-meets-virtual-academy could actually be sustainable—*if* we put relationships first and tech second. The moment that vision clicked, the “risk” felt less like a leap and more like the logical next step.

Founding Eaton Academic was ultimately an act of alignment: aligning my experience with my values, aligning families with educators who truly get their kids, and aligning learning with the real world students will inherit. Once I saw that path, I couldn’t un-see it—so I built it.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Eaton Academic exists because I believed every child deserved a classroom that felt as personal and purposeful as a favorite storybook—one they couldn’t wait to open each day. What sets us apart is the power of small: classes capped at ten, expert teachers who know each student’s quirks and sparks, and a curriculum that marries classic literature, hands-on projects, and real-world problem-solving. Families often tell us they’re astonished by how quickly their children’s confidence blooms once they’re truly seen and heard. I’m most proud of those light-bulb moments—and of the community that’s grown around them. Our Friday meet-ups, where students swap book recommendations or form impromptu baseball teams, prove that meaningful social connections can thrive in a homeschool model.

Getting here was anything but easy. I left a steady leadership role to sketch out a new kind of school on a shoestring budget. At first, some parents were skeptical: Could such tiny classes still be rigorous? Could virtual components feel warm and human? There were tech meltdowns, marketing misfires, and the inevitable “Is this really going to work?” self-doubt at 2 a.m. What carried us through was relentless listening. We surveyed families weekly, adjusted pacing on the fly, and built an internal culture where teachers felt safe to experiment. Each challenge became a design prompt: enrollment dips pushed us to refine our messaging; a curriculum gap led us to create our own multimedia science modules; pandemic disruptions forced us to double down on community-building.

The biggest lessons? (1) Put relationships before systems—software can be upgraded, trust must be earned. (2) Hire mission-aligned people and then give them room to shine. (3) Treat agility as a core value; education—and childhood—never sit still.

What I want the world to know is this: Eaton Academic isn’t just a business; it’s a living proof point that learning can be intimate, adventurous, and future-ready all at once. Our story is still being written—with every curious question a student asks, with every parent who decides their child’s education should feel as unique as they are. If you believe school should kindle possibility rather than conformity, we’d love for you to be part of the next chapter.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh, if my best friend were visiting Miami, we’d have the time of our lives! First, I’d take her straight to South Beach to soak up the sun. After a leisurely beach day, we’d grab brunch at The Daily Creative Food Co. – their avocado toast is *chef’s kiss*. We’d hit up the classic *Joe’s Stone Crab* for lunch if it’s in season, then wander around Ocean Drive to enjoy the art deco vibe. For dinner, we can’t miss *Versailles* in Little Havana for some Cuban food. Afterward, we’d keep the party going at Ball & Chain – it’s a salsa-filled, lively spot perfect for dancing and cocktails.

The next few days would be a mix of adventure and relaxation. We’d explore Wynwood Walls for some incredible street art, then grab tacos at Coyo Taco and spend the afternoon at the Perez Art Museum. Dinner at The River Oyster Bar in Brickell would be a must, followed by drinks at The Rooftop at E11even – the views and energy there are unmatched. On another day, we’d rent bikes and ride through Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park, followed by lobster rolls at The Lobster Shack in Key Biscayne. Then, we’d unwind with a spa day at The Standard before heading to Yardbird for some epic fried chicken. And for a nightcap? LIV nightclub – because why not?

We’d also hit up Little Havana to dive into the Cuban culture – start the day with Cuban pastries and coffee, then salsa our way through the streets. For something a little more laid-back, I’d take her to The Biltmore Hotel for a fancy breakfast, followed by a visit to the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden for some peace and quiet. To wrap it up, we’d have a final farewell brunch at The News Café, right on the beach, before shopping at Bal Harbour Shops. Miami has it all – from chill beach days and vibrant nightlife to delicious food and endless adventure. It’s the perfect place to make unforgettable memories with a best friend!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband. Without him nothing in my life would be possible.
