Meet Vanessa Bloom | Hair Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Vanessa Bloom and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Vanessa, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
It was something that I had always thought about but just continued to stay “comfortable” in a salon. I think the main deciding factor is being mentally prepared for something “new”. The mindset of just showing up to do the hair but NOW showing up for the business end of it too. It is a transformative experience and although I say, “why did I wait so long”, I know the timing for everything in life happens when it’s supposed to. I feel most happy now than ever hair designing.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am me. What you see is what you get. I am happy, I laugh, talk a lot and want to really know YOU. I look at hair as art and part of being creative is the uniqueness of every experience. I am not a cookie cutter hair designer. I cannot operate like a machine and make every strand on your hair perfect. Part of perfect style can be imperfections of what your hair can do. I truly love and feel with my whole heart thankful for everyone that sits in my chair. It is a space for you to be seen, heard, and in a few short hours transformed into feeling your most “you-nique” and beautiful self. One of my favorite things about hair is that in an instant you can change someone’s confidence, how they see themself looking in the mirror. It takes 1 appointment to elevate a person.
Hair is often looked at an “easy fun job”. It is hard ass work- know that. I can definitely say I have made some blunders in my past, that is how you grow- period. I had to suck it up, learn from my mistakes and educate myself more and never stopping. Learning when to say NO. Understanding your worth not allowing bosses or colleagues to make you feel less than. Boundaries with clients and take a freaking lunch please! Make sure to make your rest days count and posture posture posture!
My brand at Bloom Beauty is about blooming into your best styled self and what that looks like for each individual lifestyle I meet. No flower is the same. Everyone is welcome here. I service all levels of human not only the rich ones. Feel safe in telling me what your needs are truly are and let me help create a hair design you love and one that respectably fits your budget. Let’s take this journey together!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am born and raised in Florida, so I am extremely familiar with this state! I lived in Broward County throughout my childhood and now reside and have my business in Palm Beach County. I grew up going to all the theme parks in Orlando so it is safe to say you can get the access tea how to navigate that with me. I love food and beverage so whether you want to kick back and enjoy a cold one at Copper Point Brewery or Civil Society and eat from a craft food truck, or you want to be bougie and to Palm Beach for specialty craft libations at “Juicy Cocktails” followed up by a rooftop dinner at The Ben or on the island at Buccan for dinner. I got you. I have 2 children and know all the fun kiddy things to do as well. Delray Beach on the Ave has plenty to see and do day and night like: El Camino, Park Tavern, Ocean 234, Pinball Museum. Same for downtown West Palm Beach like: Top of the Rox, Bradleys, or Banko Cantina. I love a Miami moment as well: Wynwood Walls, Strawberry Moon, Hell’s Kitchen Biscayne, Cafe La Trova to name a few.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Wow! Well, for starters my husband who has been 100% a cheerleader in my corner for my career. He worked very hard to keep myself and our son a float while I lived off assistant money chasing my dream. I would love to thank Cecilia Geraci for her mentorship in my haircutting skills. I spent every Monday for a year+ learning all the fundamental techniques for hair styling, updos, and cutting from her and I can very gratefully say I have been able to thrive in this industry because of her expertise. I would like to thank my father for writing the check in full for is very tenacious daughter who had a hard time deciding “what” the hell she was going to do with her life after finishing high school. My mother for literally getting every haircut through my training. My sister for helping me lift off into a dream of having my own space. I would like to say thank you to Kelly Truglio for helping me understand the classic fundamentals of hair color and formulation. Lastly, I would like to thank myself for following through the hard road and despite the negative and unsure feelings of doubt rose above, showed up, and did the damn thing.
