We had the good fortune of connecting with Katarina Crane and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katarina, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
By the end of the year, I want a business that feels bold, aligned, and alive! I’m done surviving and not taking chances! Life isn’t short but the opportunities you are presented with are! I’m building something that feeds my creativity, protects my peace, and reflects the care and attention to detail I bring to each guest that steps foot in my salon! I want to show healthy hustle. No more burnout, and no more playing small. I want to show up as me proudly and with confidence!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a hair stylist but more than that I am a hair artist! I truly feel I excel in the vivid/fashion color world. I am always thinking of new color combos and new placements that to some seem impossible. But I want to test the waters and push past the limits of a typical color service. I want to create fully custom formulas that fit my guests and their lifestyle. I want to educate them on the best ways to keep their art bright, shiny, and healthy. I want to make everyone feel like the version of themselves that they dreamed of being as a kid but never had the support to do so. I got to where I am today by being authentically me and not letting people that think being “normal” and doing what every one else does would be the only way to make me successful. I am successful because of the space and the brand I have created, and the passion I have for not only my work as a hair artist but as a salon owner. Nothing good comes easy and I am to this day still growing pushing to be the absolute best and always be open to learning more and new ways to keep my clients happy. I wasn’t dealt a good hand but someone close to me once told me its not the hand your dealt but how you choose to move forward with those cards. I have fought so hard being the odd one out growing up and to now being this alternative salon owner and proving to my younger self and others that I am more than capable of doing what I’ve always wanted to do.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to Leaderboards to play old school arcade games and have some delicious food! Particularly their appetizers. I would defeintly go to Brew Not So Bad Coffee shop their coffee and teas are to die for and their pastries are delicious with plenty of options and we can sit their and yap and just enjoy the time. After we could walk all through Riverside and enjoy the parks and the thrift shops/antique stories. I am also a huge movie buff an would love to go see a good horror movie in theaters and get some of the best popcorn. I also love all of the small locally owned bookstores in the Riverside and Murray Hill area they’re all beautiful and quiant The best way to just sit and get lost in a book and then discuss what we read! I also love at the end of the week there is the Riverside Arts Market there’s so many local vendors and food. Don’t forget all of the dogs and just getting out and enjoying time to see what’s all-around us.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My friends and family that have adopted me along the way of my career and supported me without a second thought! I may not have been born into the most supportive family but the best ones are the ones that chose you even when you’re not blood!
