Meet Amy Bursor | Owner 3Paws Kitchen

We had the good fortune of connecting with Amy Bursor and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amy, what do you attribute your success to?
I think the most important factor behind our success has been the ability to change. I started out as a dog food company before the pandemic but sales dried up with lockdown so I pivoted into a dog bakery and our success was reborn. Listening to our customers, making products they want and letting go of the ones that haven’t been selling has been our key to success.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business, 3 Paws Kitchen, makes birthday cakes and treats for dogs. As a female owned small business I make custom designed cakes, healthy treats for dogs, and specialty treats for weddings and businesses. I’m most proud that I started this business during the pandemic in my small home kitchen and we have grown to shipping cakes and treats all over the country. I got here by putting my heart and soul into every cake or treat I create. Treating every customer as tho they are my friend or family member. Running your own business is not easy. I work 14 hour days every day. You have to be the creative, the marketing, the product developer, the photographer, and any other part of the business. It took me a long time to learn the word no. For so long I was so grateful for every inquiry and every order that I said yes to everything. Unfortunately there’s only so many hours in the day and saying yes to everything let to overworking, lack of sleep, and just a general decline in health and work/life balance. Now I give myself the grace to say I’m sorry, I just can’t and create boundaries for myself to ensure I’m not overdoing it. I want people to know that even tho I seem like a big company it’s just me, here in my kitchen baking away. I love every minute of it and I’m so grateful for every customer that has bought a cake or a treat or even just spread the word about my business.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would say the City Center is one of my favorite places. It has a little bit of everything. Great shopping and great food. I’d also love to take them out on the boat and spend the day on the water.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I definitely need to shout out my Mother-in-law Diane. Before the pandemic I had never baked a single thing. She taught me all the skills that I use to this very day. She stayed up with me till 3am figuring out frosting options and different baking techniques. She’s helped me change the scope of my business and I will be forever grateful to her.
