Meet Alexis Bringas | Artist & Science Teacher

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexis Bringas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexis, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
I think the most important thing I’ve done as a parent is being present—really listening, showing up for the little and big moments, and making sure my kids feel seen and loved for who they are. I want my girls to be independent and make their own choices finding their voice when it comes to everyday decisions. I hope seeing their mom be driven and passionate inspires them to do the same. That consistency builds trust and confidence that I hope sticks with them as they grow.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is all about capturing joy, connection, and the beauty in everyday moments—mostly through watercolor and acrylic. I think what sets me apart is the heart I put into every piece. I’m inspired by nature, animals, and childhood wonder, and I try to bring a sense of warmth and playfulness to my work.
I didn’t take a straight path to get here—it’s been full of trial and error, learning curves, and a lot of late nights when the little ones are asleep. Building confidence in myself as an artist was a challenge, I still feel the imposter syndrome today, but I kept showing up, kept painting, and slowly found my voice and confidence. I’ve learned that consistency matters more than perfection, and that community and support can carry you through the tough parts.
What I want people to know is that my art is meant to bring a little light into their world. I want their hearts to light up when they see the bright colors and marks on my work. Whether it’s a painting, a coloring book, or a kids workshop, it’s all about sparking creativity and joy—for kids and adults alike. That’s what keeps me going.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend came to visit for a week, I’d make sure they got the full experience. If my best friend came to visit for a week, I’d plan a mix of fun and relaxing activities—basically all my favorite things about where I live (we live where others vacation!)
I would definitely take them to Our Grounds coffee shop, my favorite local coffee spot with a great cause. A beach day is a must! I like to go to Crandon Park as it brings back childhood memories of Sundays at the Beach. The Biscayne Nature Center is one of my favorites as well. I love the centers educational focus and ever changing art exhibitions.
I would definitely take them to lunch at Monty’s in the Grove—classic spot by the bay, super fun atmosphere, and great seafood. Then maybe wander around Coconut Grove. The Grove is charming and full of some fun shops that we would visit too.
If its art festival season, we would check out some local art fairs and enjoy good food, music, and art! Some of my favorites are the Beaux Arts Festival, the South Miami Arts Festival, and the Pinecrest Art and Design Fair (all of which I have been a part of!).
The bird road art district is my favorite small art area with local art galleries, breweries, and shops, its a hidden gem and a must see!
The Big Cheese of Miami is a family favorite of ours to enjoy and then cross over to Walls Old Fashioned Ice Cream.
