Meet Jennifer M. Cail | CEO of Medrano & Cail

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer M. Cail and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer M., what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Starting my business was equal parts timing, passion, and necessity. After a 14-year career in federal law enforcement, I made the decision to retire when I became a mom — with both my husband and I in the same field, the lifestyle wasn’t sustainable for our new family. Around that same time, I kept seeing moms in local groups asking for bookkeeping help. That was the spark. I had grown up in Miami learning bookkeeping from my mom, worked in banking, and always had an accounting background. I thought: Why not put these skills to use and help people in my own community? I earned my certifications, launched Medrano & Cail, and within six months was serving 22 clients while caring for a newborn at home. What began as a way to support families quickly grew into a full firm — and today it continues to thrive with the same heart for service it started with.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
For me, business has always been about more than numbers. At Medrano & Cail, our mission is to help small businesses thrive by removing the stress of bookkeeping and accounting, so owners can focus on what really matters — growing their companies and spending time with their families. From the very beginning, I wanted our firm to feel like an extension of our clients’ own team, not just another service provider. That’s why we built our culture around the values of P.R.O.F.I.T — Partnership, Relationships, Opportunity, Family First, Ingenuity, and Tenacity. Those aren’t just words on paper; they guide how we work with every client.
One thing that truly sets us apart is our emphasis on relationships. A quarter of our clients are in real estate, and they especially value our responsiveness — we make it a point to return every call and email within 24 hours. That kind of consistency, paired with expertise, has fueled our growth and built trust that lasts.
Getting here wasn’t easy. Like many entrepreneurs, I’ve faced challenges, but what carried me through was the decision to align my work with my values. The most important choice I ever made was stepping away from my law enforcement career to be fully present for my son. That decision shaped not only my family life — where we now live together on a “family compound” with my parents and brother — but also the heart of my business. Family first isn’t just a principle I preach, it’s how I live, and that authenticity resonates with my team and clients alike.
I also believe that business success is tied to social impact. Beyond client work, I volunteer as a SCORE subject matter expert, serve on nonprofit boards, and participate in leadership programs. Using my skills and resources to strengthen the community around me is just as important as the financial outcomes we deliver. To me, success is balance and impact — when clients can rest easy, my team feels engaged, my family is at the center, and the community is stronger because of the work we do.
That’s the story of Medrano & Cail — a firm built on values, relationships, and heart. And that’s what I want the world to know about our brand: we’re not just about accounting, we’re about creating peace of mind, opportunity, and connection for the people we serve.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We’d start the mornings at Vicky Bakery, grabbing a cafecito and a pastelito while people watching as the crowd heads to work. There’s something about standing at that little window, sipping strong Cuban coffee, that feels so true to Miami.
From there, I’d take them to the Britto Exhibit because it’s playful, colorful, and just makes you smile. From there we’d continue the afternoon wandering through the Art District, checking out murals, hidden galleries, and those unexpected corners that feel like you’ve stumbled onto something special.
Food is always a centerpiece for me, so one night we’d head to Flanigan’s. It’s not fancy, but that’s the point. The portions are huge, the vibe is laid-back, and it’s the kind of place where you end up staying way longer than you planned, laughing over a big table of comfort food.
The rest of the week, I’d mix it up with mornings at little coffee shops, afternoons exploring neighborhoods you don’t see on postcards, and nights listening to live music or hanging out somewhere low-key. For me, the magic of Miami isn’t just the spots themselves, it’s the people you meet along the way.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without the unwavering love and support of my family. Choosing to step away from my first career was a leap of faith, but my family gave me the strength to take that step. Living on our family compound means I’m surrounded daily by encouragement, perspective, and grounding — and my son continues to be my greatest inspiration. He’s the reason I strive to model a life where presence, connection, and family come first.
I also owe a great deal to the mentors, peers, and organizations that have shaped me along the way. SCORE, nonprofit boards, and leadership programs have not only given me the opportunity to give back, but also provided guidance, encouragement, and community when I needed it most. These experiences reminded me that success is never a solo journey — it’s built through relationships, shared knowledge, and a willingness to lift others up.
So while I’m proud of what Medrano & Cail has become, the truth is that my story is really the story of all the people who have walked alongside me. From family to mentors to clients who trust us as partners, they each deserve credit for the success we’ve achieved together.
