We had the good fortune of connecting with Adianez Torres and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Adianez, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
It’s not about continuing or giving up; it’s about perseverance and the pursuit of happiness for me. It’s always been my passion to design artwork and demonstrate that not only can it be used as a therapy during hard times and struggles, but also as a way to destress and make a change in other people’s lives, and that’s what lets me continue on with my work.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Art is not easy. Sure, an idea might easily pop into your head, but without perseverance, it’s hard to keep going. There are downfalls, and there are highs. At the end of the day, a lot of work goes into your art, whether it’s the time you dedicate to it, the countless trials it takes, or the hours you spend questioning whether it’s good enough.

The truth is that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You constantly wonder, “Is it good enough?” What might be great for one person could be trash to another.

The main challenge is criticism. No matter how good you think it is, it might never be good enough in someone else’s eyes. There are times when giving up feels like the easier choice, not just because of the critics, but because of the long days and sleepless nights poured into a single project.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were visiting Miami, I’d design a week full of food, art, and skyline views to give them the best experience possible. As a Hispanic and cultural food enthusiast, I’d start by Miami’s rich mix of Cuban, Peruvian, Dominican, and other Latino restaurants. Downtown offers an array of restaurants where we can walk, explore, and decide our daily meals. We’d take in some culture with a tour around the art museum by the bay, soaking in modern art and waterfront views. One afternoon, we’d head to South Beach to relax under the sun, swim a little, and maybe even stay to catch the sunset by the water. Later in the week, we’d enjoy drinks at Rosa Sky, a rooftop bar with stunning views of the city skyline. We’d also spend time wandering through Wynwood’s mural-filled streets, visiting local cafes, and seeking out hidden gems since we’re both explorers at heart, always looking for something new.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I dedicate my work to my ex-sister-in-law’s late husband. He was always pushing me forward and encouraging me to pursue my dreams and express myself through my work. Not just as therapy, but as a way of overcoming every difficulty that presents itself in daily life.
