Meet Shirly Kauffman | CEO&Founder of Kauffman insurance Group

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shirly Kauffman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shirly, how do you think about risk?
I’ve learned that as a woman especially as a founder you don’t get rewarded for playing it safe. You get rewarded for betting on yourself when no one else is ready to.
Risk has been a defining theme in my life and career. I didn’t come from privilege or a built-in safety net. Every level I’ve reached came from making uncomfortable decisions: leaving stability, investing my own money, building teams before the revenue was guaranteed, and trusting my vision even when it made people uncomfortable. That’s not recklessness that’s leadership.
As a CEO, risk-taking means taking responsibility. I carry payroll, people’s livelihoods, and big visions on my shoulders. I don’t wait for permission. I make calculated moves, I execute relentlessly, and I adjust fast when something doesn’t work. Failure doesn’t scare me stagnation does.
Being a female founder has also taught me when *not* to take risks. I no longer overextend myself for partnerships that don’t show up equally. I protect my time, my standards, and my team fiercely. That discernment is power.
Every major win in my career exists because I chose courage over comfort. I didn’t build this by being cautious I built it by being bold, disciplined, and unapologetically confident in what I bring to the table.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business was built with intention, grit, and an unwavering belief that there is a better way to do things for clients, for teams, and for women in leadership.
What sets us apart is that we don’t just sell products; we build trust and systems that last. I’ve created an organization rooted in integrity, structure, and performance. We invest heavily in training, compliance, customer experience, and people. Our clients are treated with true white-glove service, and our team is supported, protected, and held to high standards. That combination is rare.
I’m most proud of the culture we’ve built. A culture where people are empowered, paid fairly, trained properly, and expected to operate with excellence. I’m proud that we’ve built something real not hype, not shortcuts, not overnight success but a sustainable business with strong foundations.
Getting here was not easy. Nothing about my journey has been easy. I built this from the ground up without a safety net, without shortcuts, and without permission. There were moments of uncertainty, financial pressure, exhaustion, and self-doubt. I had to learn how to lead before I felt ready, how to make hard decisions when they were unpopular, and how to protect my vision even when others didn’t fully see it yet.
I overcame challenges by refusing to quit but more importantly, by learning how to adapt. Every setback taught me something: how to negotiate better, hire smarter, trust my instincts, set boundaries, and stop overextending myself for situations that weren’t aligned. I learned that resilience isn’t just pushing forward it’s knowing when to pivot and when to say no.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that confidence is built through action. You don’t wait until you feel ready you become ready by showing up consistently, even when it’s uncomfortable. I’ve also learned that protecting your values is non-negotiable. Growth without integrity is never worth it.
What I want the world to know about me and my brand is this: I am building something bigger than myself. A business that proves women can lead powerfully, build profitably, and still operate with integrity. My story isn’t about perfection it’s about persistence, discipline, and believing in yourself long before the results are visible.
And this is only the beginning.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting South Florida for a week and I wanted to show her the best time possible, I’d plan an itinerary that captures the full experience — beach, culture, food, ambition, and that undeniable Miami energy.
We’d start with the ocean. There’s nothing like a morning walk along Fort Lauderdale Beach to set the tone. Lunch at El Vez for vibrant Mexican food and margaritas, then an evening on Las Olas — dinner at Louie Bossi followed by rooftop drinks at Sparrow overlooking the city lights.
One day has to be spent on the water. Renting a boat and cruising the Intracoastal is such a South Florida staple. Docking at a waterfront restaurant like Shooters Waterfront or heading down to Miami for Kiki on the River gives you that fun, celebratory vibe. Sunset dinner at Takato right on the beach would be the perfect close.
Of course, we’d dedicate a full day to Miami. Brunch at Sadelle’s in Coconut Grove or Swan in the Design District, then exploring the art and architecture in Wynwood. Dinner at Sexy Fish or Komodo captures that glamorous Miami feel, and rooftop cocktails at Sugar give you those skyline views that remind you why this city is iconic.
But South Florida isn’t just nightlife — it’s balance. A morning yoga class, smoothies at Raw Juce, and an afternoon at Morikami Japanese Gardens in Delray show the calmer, more grounded side of the area. Atlantic Avenue in Delray for dinner gives you charm and walkability all in one.
For something uniquely Florida, I’d add an Everglades airboat ride or, if we’re leaning luxury, a spa day at Eau Palm Beach. Dinner at Kaluz at sunset is always a favorite for waterfront views.
We’d mix in Boca’s Town Center for shopping, a relaxed pool afternoon in Parkland, and a Sunday brunch at The Cook and The Cork or Tap 42 before closing the week with a sunset in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea.
To me, what makes this area special is the contrast. It’s beach mornings and rooftop nights. It’s ambitious entrepreneurs, creatives, families, and dreamers all building something. It’s Latin flavor, luxury energy, wellness culture, and nonstop momentum — all within a short drive of each other.
That blend of drive and lifestyle is what makes South Florida exciting — and why I love calling it home.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout goes to the people who believed in me during the seasons when believing wasn’t easy when there were no guarantees, no applause, and no proof that it would all work out.
First, my family. They are my anchor. They’ve seen the late nights, the pressure, the sacrifices, and the moments of doubt that never make it onto social media. My children, especially, are my greatest motivation. Everything I build is rooted in giving them an example of courage, resilience, and self-worth.
I also want to honor my team. They didn’t just work for a company they trusted a vision that was still being built. They stood with me through growing pains, uncertainty, and long days, and their loyalty and belief mean more to me than any milestone.
I’m deeply grateful for the women who lead with strength even when no one is clapping the mothers, founders, and dreamers who carry entire worlds on their shoulders while still showing up. Their quiet resilience reminds me that we’re never as alone as we think.
Lastly, I want to acknowledge every challenge that forced me to grow. The hard moments, the setbacks, the times I had to choose myself those experiences shaped me into the leader I am today. I wouldn’t change them, because they taught me how strong I really am.
