We had the good fortune of connecting with Aleicia Gibson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aleicia, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I chose to pursue a career in music because it never really felt like a choice for me, I genuinely felt destined for it. Growing up in a musical family thats deeply rooted in Jamaican music culture, music just naturally became my way of expressing things I didn’t always know how to say directly. I also take my faith in God seriously, and I see my voice and talent as something I’m meant to use, not just keep to myself. So yeah, for me, music is just how I’m built.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m extremely proud of where I’m at in my career. I’ve been with Roc Nation since I started in 2018 and records I’m apart of have gone multi-platinum accumulating 2 billion streams across all platforms. I’m very grateful for that and extremely excited for the future. It wasn’t easy though and definitely still has its challenges. I’m in a male dominated industry, so sometimes you have to work a little harder to be taken seriously, but overall I think everyone in the industry would agree that you have to be unapologetically yourself. Theres only one of you so the best thing you can do is stay confident in who you are creatively and stay consistent.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Okay so I’m from Broward County, but I spent a majority of my time down in Miami. If you were visiting here I’d tell you to head to Coyo Taco on Tuesday, not only for the food but for the party Rum and Bass on Tuesday nights. I’d recommend 1800-Lucky for some of my favorite food spots all in one place, definitely stop by the Wynwood Walls, and make your way to Rise and Toast on Sundays at the Urban for brunch and one of the best dancehall fusion parties Miami has to offer.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to thank my entire family and team in general, my parents, brother, cousin, friends, management over the years.. just everyone for pushing me and believing in me from the start. A strong team/foundation means everything.
