We had the good fortune of connecting with Elisa Ortega and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Elisa, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
It all started after having my daughter, 5 years ago. At that time I worked together with my husband helping him in his digital marketing business in the graphic design area. I always thought aboout creating my own brand, but at that time it was a little complicated between housework, the baby and everything else…. Time passed and I left my native country, Ecuador and came to live in Miami. As I could not work because of my legal status and because I was in charge of my daughter, I began to sketch the idea of offering my freelance graphic design services.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a freelancer it is difficult to make yourself known in any market, especially in social networks and digital media since, at this time it is a place that is too crowded with so much competition. It has not been easy for me since I started my own business, but that’s the entreptreneur’s life. Something I have learned in these years is to overcome the challenges and not give up until I’ve achieved what I set out for myself every day. Having discipline is very important, not just motivation. It has also helped me to have a little girl to whom I must set an example and teach her to work hard for what she wants.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
It would start with a brunch at Crema or Graziano’s in Coral Gables, they have the best menus ever! Then a walk on Miracle mile which has very cool spots for nice colonial architecture photos. Then there’s also the Coconut Grove park with a nice bay view and good restaurants, there’s a FD pie bakeshop for the sweet tooth and also a small art gallery around… Definitely visit downotwn Brickell, Wynwood and Miami Design district. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband and daughter, Stella. For being my motivation, to grow everyday!
