We had the good fortune of connecting with Blake Pruitt and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Blake, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
To work for free. Initially I felt my limited experience as a new business needed a stronger resume. The goal while having a preexisting career providing income was to offer services for free in exchange for the experience. I must say the experience came and so did the adventures. This quickly morphed into trading goods from well known companies in exchange for lifestyle media. Today, the ability to charge for my services is now backed by experience and an incredible network of clients.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As much as we think about setting ourselves apart from others, competitively this does sound appetizing but have also found joining like minded others has brought my professionalism to new heights. I think this has kept ideas fresh and creative. Those are the challenges, getting into an absence of creativity and time. I think a lot of us entrepreneurs have had or still have a career in something outside of this subject article for Voyage. Giving a career the amount of time it deserves and grinding after can be a time vacuum. Regardless, it has been well worth it!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Great question. My go to recommendation will always be to enjoy the water. Go offshore for a dive, fishing, or cruise the intracoastal. Good restaurants are too numerous to list. Lets narrow the options by picking a few accessible by boat: Utiki (Jupiter), Dive Bar (Jupiter) Guanabanas (Jupiter), Downtown West Palm public dock with many options on Clematis Street, Old Key Lime House (Boynton Beach) and many more…just search online. The farmers markets in West Palm and Palm Beach Gardens provide a neat grocery trip on weekends. Prior to Covid and hopefully soon to return will be concerts and sporting events with in person attendance. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The motivated individual has been great encouragement. Think back on how easy it was to find an excuse during the pandemic. Motivation came slow to some. I dedicate this answer to those who grind until the sun sets and wake up before it rises. That fuels my fire.
