Meet Jasmine Valdes | Singer/Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jasmine Valdes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jasmine, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My business is my music. I was trying to write songs for another music project before the one I am in the process of releasing now, and somewhere along the lines I just wasn’t feeling it anymore. I didn’t feel like that first project sounded like me; so,I scrapped it and tried again. I had a few new experiences in life and hat all kick started my writing process. One song came after the other and they started feeling more solid and more like me. I also co-wrote with some new people, and I was taking myself more serious this time around.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My music is the soundtrack to the biggest experiences in my life. My music encompasses falling in love, growing up, and moving on. I’m proud of letting myself be vulnerable in my sound and lyrics. For a really long time I fought with the idea of allowing myself to let the world hear the rawest parts of me. It was probably the hardest thing I had to overcome but surrounding myself with more writers reassured me that opening up in my music could be a form of healing and growth, and in the end it was. Along the way I learned to trust my gut and just let things flow, I found my greatest songs from letting myself just write and not get in my head about each word I put on paper. Letting yourself be free and being open to anything that could come next is a great skill to have in your craft and in life! I’d like the world to know that everything in life is just a perspective and my music is just my little slice on how I see and feel life.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When visiting Miami, I would take my best friend to eat at local Cuban bakery for breakfast in the morning one day, brunch at American Social another, drinks in Brickell, and definitely grab some Peruvian food at some point. To visit, we would go to Wynood and the Design District for some fun photo spots, take a stroll down coconut grove, spend another day at Miami Beach, a finish our last night in Key Biscayne to get a night time view of the Miami skyline.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The two people that come to mind are my best friend/favorite person to collaborate with Giancarlo Alfanno and my boss/music mentor Judy Stakee. Without them both, this project wouldn’t be what it is today.
