We had the good fortune of connecting with Rebecca King Ferraro and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rebecca, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I am a former professional ballet dancer with Miami City Ballet. I started ballet at the age of three and I was lucky enough to pursue my passion through to a decade long professional career. While I was dancing, I had dabbled in starting a blog and using digital marketing to promote the website. I found this to be really interesting and exciting, as I immediately came to see the value that social media had for a business and brand.
In 2016, sidelined from dancing by a serious injury and impending surgery, I had to start thinking about what came next for me. I teamed up with a fellow Miami City Ballet dancer to expand my blog into a new medium: a podcast. The Conversations on Dance podcast (conversationsondancepod.com) has become one of the most popular ballet and dance podcasts in the U.S., taking us around the country for live events and to cover performances/festivals.
Once I officially retired in 2017, I knew that I wanted to make my career shift into social media and digital marketing. Now, in 2021, I am thrilled to have a distinguished group of clients based mostly in art, dance, and the nonprofit arena. Being able to help organizations that I feel passionately about, has been such a wonderful way to transition from one artistic career to another.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business, Rebecca King Ferraro Digital Marketing Management, offers specialized digital optimization services that are designed specifically for my clients’ needs. Whether for a new business just starting out, or an established organization looking for a boost to their bottom line, expanding a digital foot print is essential. We offer services that include, website design, management of social media platforms, marketing consulting, public relations, and podcast consulting, to name a few.
Working primarily within the arts and nonprofit arena, we have the understanding of what it takes to bring people under the umbrella of an organization, make people feel connected to the work the organization is doing, and communicate effectively with an audience.
I have worked with many different businesses since establishing my business (rebeccaferraro.com), though I have certainly seen a shift in my clientele since COVID hit in 2020. As theaters were closed and performances cancelled, arts and dance had to quickly shift to the online sphere. During that shift, I was able to connect and start working with new organizations as they moved focus to their online presence. Though normalcy will return, the importance of digital marketing for these kinds of organizations will continue to be essential. I have always wanted to use my digital marketing skills to continue to stay connected to the dance and art world after my retirement, so this has been a true pleasure for me.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I certainly want to thank my parents for their endless support of my career: both my ballet career and my career transition into marketing. The sacrifices that they made to allow me to pursue a passion that very few people are lucky enough to see come to fruition, will never be lost on me. The hours in the car going to and from rehearsals, going to every performance, letting me move across the country at 17, and coming to see me dance in Miami every season, will always mean the world to me. My ballet career is the greatest gift of my life, and it is truly thanks to them.
I also want to thank my husband for his support through and through. We lived in two different cities for many years so that I could continue to dance in Miami. He was always in the audience and would come on tour with us. He grew to learn about ballet and to truly appreciate the artistry. I will always be grateful that we got to share those experiences together. As I transitioned to a new career, he has continued to help and support me while I found my footing as I created a new business from the ground up.
