We had the good fortune of connecting with HAYELO and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi HAYELO, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I use my childhood as a reference point to discover any and all of my possible interests. I was always drawing pictures, writing stories, learning origami, and even practicing magic tricks- I gravitated to anything that allowed my imagination to roam free. As I got older, reflecting on my past interests became a guide leading me to choose to an artistic path. I tried to find more “practical” career paths as the end of my high school years approached but nothing stood out to me and I knew whatever I chose to do with my life, I wanted to enjoy doing it. The traditional lifestyle would not offer me the luxury of loving my work, so I chose to pursue a creative career.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My name is Hayelo, I’m a recording artist from South Florida but I currently live in Dallas, Texas. I use music to share my perspective on the simulation we call the human experience. What sets me a part in a saturated market like music without mentioning my elite writing/songwriting is my message and motive. When I first started out I wanted to use music to tackle all of the problems in the world until I realized I had to deal with the world of problems within myself first. No one’s misfortune is unique, everyone everywhere is experiencing everything at once, knowing this gave me the idea that if I just made honest, vulnerable music, it will connect to the listeners because I’m not alone in my trials and maybe they will realize that they’re not alone as well.

My debut full-length project titled Red Pill is dropping on all platforms on May 22nd and Im excited, nervous, and most of all, proud of it. It’s about exploring the self imposed matrix (false reality), escaping it, and stepping into your higher self or becoming “The One.” It’s based off of my true thoughts, true events, and real emotions and the concept draws heavy influence from my favorite movie “The Matrix.”

I am where I am now based off of the undefeated duo faith and works. I believed I would be doing I’m doing before I even knew how I would do it and I did what could with what I had until I leveled up. Being an artist is never easy but I overcame struggles whether it’s mental or monetarily with persistence.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First for a small breakfast I would take them to Fiction Coffee for a small breakfast and delicious hot drinks. I recommend their chai latte. Then we would go to the Dallas Museum of Art because art museums are always a good time. During lunch time we would eat wings at Harris House of Heroes. They have the best wings to me right now, especially their flavor Dirty Cowboy. To end the night we would take a walk through Deep Ellum for drinks, music, and night life.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to give a shout out to my friend Pat Dagle, he’s a multifaceted artist who not only help me package my music but he pushes me to be a better artist overall (wether he know’s it or not).

I also would like to shout out my boy Earl he gives me great pointers to make sure I’m putting in the work that it takes to move forward and to stay out of trouble.

My homie DJ J Hart treated me like family since the first day we met and he records and produces my music whenever I’m in New York.

Last but not least, shout out to all of my brother’s that constantly motivate me and support me. They know who they are (too many to name). They inspire me by being great in their own life-path.
