Meet Laura Moore | Women’s Clothing Brand Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Laura Moore and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Laura, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
When I was 3 weeks old I started having uncontrollable seizures due to birth and delivery complications. The hospital overdosed my mother with an epidural, which made her unconscious during delivery. Forceps were used for my delivery which caused major brain damage- a scar on the right side of my brain. Many exams were performed and many different medications were prescribed but none actually worked. If one medication did not work well, the doctor would increase to the highest possible dose, then switch to another type of medicine and repeat the process. The hospital told my parents that I would be a paraplegic. I continued having episodes for decades.
As time went on I watched my friends in school do daily activities that were a burden for me. I wasn’t able to drive in high school, go to parties, hang out with friends or any of the fun things kids in school do, because of fear of having another seizure.
In 2010 I found a doctor who was able to help me. After 2 visits, he referred me to the Medical University of South Carolina where I was tested to be a potential candidate for brain surgery. Trust me, the process was not easy. With the hospital being 3 hours away made the visits even more challenging because some of them were out patient. My dad worked 2nd shift from 515pm till 230 am and my appointments were at 6am. He brought me to every single one-what a hero.
As tired as I was from all the travelling and testing for the surgery it sure did pay off. EEGS, Cat scans, MRIs and many other exams were performed which all showed that the seizures were originating from the same spot-on the right side of my brain. One last exam was performed, which verified I was ready. On September 21, 2013 I had 4 seizures, which was the magic number for my procedure. Two days later I was hauled into the OR and underwent an 8-hour surgery-a temporal lobectomy. I now can do everything I was never able to do such as drive, work, travel and spend quality time with loved ones. I lost my dad due to congestive heart failure in 2018 and have a passion for those in the healthcare industry as they have saved my life. I am walking with no issues and live a normal and healthy lifestyle. I exercise regularly and have been seizure free since. One of my goals is to open a non-profit for cardiology and neurology patients, to help them pay their medical bills.

What should our readers know about your business?
BizBabe is the go-to destination for classy, yet sexy fashion for women. BB elicits an attitude-a mindset. It’s a distinctive original, always reaching for fashion’s next step. Designed for the classy, sexy, defined woman, BB is a worldwide brand that embodies a sexy, sophisticated lifestyle.
Despite the past experiences as mentioned previously, I have always been relentless. Dealing with condescending family members was my biggest challenge, making me even more relentless. Business was a struggle at first, as I had no assistance. Learning the ins and out, how to build my business and store and the what to-dos and what not to-dos were the biggest challenges I faced. Trial and error and experimenting was the hardest part for me as I could not find anyone who knew how to teach me how to properly run my business.
One lesson I learned is how to properly start and set up business. Most platforms and social media make business look very easy as the best looking sites and stores take alot of time and detail to perfect.
I want every female to know that there is a story behind BB and why we are strong on our logo, Classy, Sexy, Defined. No matter your color, race, size or background, everyone is important and her stories should be heard and shared as well. I want to uplift and support women who have been in similar experiences and I have as well as make an impact on their lives as well.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would bring her to the beach. The beach has always been my happy place. I am able to think, meditate, and spend time with God and myself while hearing the waves crash on shore. I would also go to the gym as physical care is just as important as mental care. I love sushi and pho. Massage and acupuncture are very relaxing and I would definitely want to explore more of the city as I am new to the area.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My father was my hero. As mentioned in the previous story, he saved my life. For years I was clueless that a cardiological issue ran on his side of the family and he carried a heart malfunction I knew nothing about, Atrial Fibrilation. He would work hard for all of us and still make time to spend with us the best he could. When my doctor referred me to the Medical University of South Carolina, the testing for my procedure began. Some were inpatient, some were outpatient and my dad brought me to most of those appointments. Testing lasted for approximately two years and he made sure I went to everyone of them. If it weren’t for my dad taking me to those appointments, which some exams were repeated to verify where my episodes were originating, I would still be seizing today. Because of him, I am now living a life I never have. I can do all the things I’ve never done such as travel, drive, spend quality time with family and friends without the fear of having another episode and I am very grateful for the sacrifices he made to save my life.
