We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Mary Barbera and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Mary, is there something you believe many others might not?
I’m in the autism world both as a parent and professional. Many times doctors and therapists encourage parents of young children with delays to “wait and see” and if they take this advice children often get worse. I teach and empower parents to detect and treat the earliest signs of autism, ADHD, and speech delays to help each child reach his or her fullest potential.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am Dr. Mary Barbera and it is my passion to help parents and professionals learn the best ways to help children diagnosed with autism (or just showing signs). I “fell” into the autism world in 1999 when my firstborn son Lucas was diagnosed. Since Lucas, was diagnosed with autism, I became a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and international keynote speaker and earned a PhD. I am also the author of the best-selling books, The Verbal Behavior Approach, and my new book, Turn Autism Around: An Action Guide for Parents of Young Children with Early Signs of Autism which was published this past spring!

Over the past few years, I have synthesized the most valuable information and developed the Turn Autism Around® approach to teach others to implement proven strategies to increase language, self-care, and social skills within homes and schools around the world. My online courses for parents and professionals have already been completed by participants from over 80 different countries spanning 6 continents.
