We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamie Bolduc and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jamie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Ever since I could remember I always wanted to be a doctor. I made sure I dedicated most of my free time to studying and doing community service activities to fit the “well-rounded” image universities had of pre-med applicants. Well, I eventually got into medical school. Then into a residency program for training, and now here I am. I am officially a board certified family medicine doctor.

So why did I venture into opening up my own aesthetics company, Bold Beauty Bar? I had put so much work into getting my medical degree and once I got there I realized that this is not what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Dealing with insurance companies, being pressured into seeing as many patients as you can in one day. This was not what I had signed up for. I wanted to be my own boss and practice the way I wanted. Having an independent personality does not help. So I decided to go for it and open up Bold Beauty Bar. Right before finishing residency I made the decision.

Aesthetics was the perfect fit for me because I still need my medical background and knowledge, but I have autonomy over what I do. I can decide who I see and how I treat them. The best part is that I do not have to deal with insurance companies at all! Another reason aesthetics was the perfect field for me is because I love doing procedures and being hands on with patients. Family medicine did not give me that option. As a medical aesthetics doctor I can merge artistry and medicine in one.

My goal in opening up Bold Beauty Bar was to stay in the field I worked so hard to get into and also find a way to be happy working in it. It has not been easy. They do not teach you business in medical school, but going through the motions from scratch makes it so much more worth it because I created this company from the bottom up. I would not have it any other way.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a Board Certified family medicine physician and medical aesthetician. I have jumped through innumerous hoops to get to where I am. I am the first physician in my family, so I did not have anyone to guide me through the process. I spent countless hours studying and taking way too many board exams, but having my family by my side is what drove me to the end. One thing I have learned through it all is that if you want something bad enough, then nothing can stop you from getting it. Here I am now, founder of my concierge medspa, Bold Beauty Bar. I couldn’t be happier. What has differentiated my medspa from the others in Miami is that I started earlier than most medical professionals would. I was still in residency training when I decided to open up my own company and go for it. Bold Beauty Bar is also a mobile medspa, so I take my services to you. Unconventional, but it works and makes your life easier. I built this company to make a difference in my patient’s lives. Whether its as small as making sure you don’t have to worry about driving in Miami traffic or as important as building up your self-esteem and confidence. I want my patients to feel more beautiful than they already are and have confidence in themselves! My job is to elevate your beauty and I hope that every patient I treat feels that way.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Miami has so many options when it comes to night life or just exploring during the day. My favorite spot is Wynwood. You will find a little bit of everything there: bars, restaurants, shops, art galleries… you name it. If I had to spend a week in Wynwood I would make sure to visit Beaker & Gray for their food AND drinks. That place never disappoints. You also have to walk the main strip of Wynwood. There you will see the famous Wynwood walls and walk past numerous restaurant options (Coyo Taco being another of my favorite especially for those late nights). Fireman Derek’s Bake Shop is another must for that sugar rush and to end the night, Dirty Rabbit for some drinks and good music. You could spend different nights at different bars/lounges at Wynwood. KYU is a great spot for a nice dinner and drinks. Wood is another place to hang out at night if you want a more relaxed setting. If you want a higher-end lounge on a roof top, then Astra is the place to be. Its a great place to hang out for a few drinks, with a nice view of the city line.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my family and boyfriend for being 100% supportive of all my decisions, personally and in business. They are my motivation and drive to be successful and always want more. And of course I dedicate this to all my loyal patients for having faith in me when I first started out in aesthetic medicine and trusting me with their faces! I could not have done it without them. All my first work was through their word of mouth. Those are the most meaningful to me. It humbles me to see when patients trust me with the their treatments. Thanks to each and every one of you that have supported my growing small business.
