We had the good fortune of connecting with Ava Stringfellow B.Fly Beauty International and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ava Stringfellow, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I believe risk-taking is a good thing if they’re taken responsibility and intelligently. When you take a risk and succeed, the outcome can be very rewarding and it could open doors for great opportunities. However, I have taken risks and failed but during my failed risk I have gained valuable knowledge about my decisions and understand that sometimes you have to fail to succeed. I have always made a conscious decision not to get too comfortable in my lifestyle or career. Having that mindset is what’s getting me through this current World Pandemic. One of the goals I set for myself was to venture into the virtual world which I started one month before the pandemic. This was risky for me as this was out of my comfort zone but so far has been very successful. One of my strengths is I set five professional career goals and five personal life goals every November to carry out the next following year. For me to reach my goals I set quarterly milestones to keep on track. Sometimes I have to push myself out of my comfort zone and tackle the unknown which can be scary. But at the same time, I have to be smart about it and always think it through to prevent from making careless mistakes.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The love of fashion caught my attention at a young age. Watching my fashionista mom and her experiences with her modeling agency growing up inspired me to make my path in the fashion industry. Being a teen model was awesome as I was living life in a truly adult world. Learning the in’s and outs of the industry, behind the scenes, showcase productions, model castings, and hair and makeup gave me the knowledge to move forward with my brand. My brand was launched in January 2018 producing my first showcase in South Florida. This event was truly amazing with over 250 guests in attendance which was great due to the fact I was not from the South Florida area. Since January 2018 I have coordinated and produced fashion showcases, photography, and media events in competitive markets in the US and International. The brand took on its first major production for Miami Swim Week in 2018 and has gained attention from International Designers from Argentina, Cuba, Brazil, Germany, Russia, United Kingdom, and the Caribbean. Being in business in South Florida has been challenging as I’ve had my shares of disappointments. I’ve learned that having signed agreements and contracts does not necessarily mean that you are covered in the event outside vendors are late, no show, or failure to follow the guidelines of the signed agreement. So I make it my priority to fully review their previous work, reviews on the web, and make a list of questions during the consultation before my appointment or initial phone call. My brand is an honest brand delivering top-notch brand experiences with exquisite attention to detail.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If you are visiting South Florida go check out some of my favorite hangouts. Sunday Brunch at Shooters Waterfront or Brunch at Foxy Brown. Dinner any night of the week at City Fish Market in Boca. Thursday evening at Rocco’s Taco on Las Olas is the best. Tuesday evening is family night with the Food Truck Invasion at Heritage Park in Plantation. Grab you bestie or hubby and head over to happy hour at the Wharf Fort Lauderdale or the Wharf Miami (Weekends Only). Saturday day trip to Islamorada, Florida Keys – Lunch at Whale Harbor and drinks at Robbie’s. Plan a beach day at the Hollywood Beach Concert Series at Hollywood Beach Stage (Wednesday thru Sunday 7 pm – 9 pm) Each night offers a different genre of music. Friday evening at Blue Martini will never disappoint you. Check out any of the local museums or art gallery and lastly, the Hard Rock Hollywood has an excellent happy hour (any day of the week).

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I contribute my success to my loving family, My husband Reginald Stringfellow, my awesome daughters Asja’Le, Alisha and Ashlea Stringfellow and my beautiful mom Ophelia Wilson.
