We had the good fortune of connecting with Dasia Thomas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dasia, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
My current work-life balance has been creeping more towards shaping a stronger modeling foundation. I never really had a predicable schedule, but it has become less predictable since I have made the official decision to become a model. What I think about the balance? I think that it is an adjustment and it can be really exciting at times to be ready at any moment for an opportunity. Other times it makes me want to roll my eyeballs in the back of my head because, it is so much to balance (with social activities, family, friends, my YouTube channel, and time to relax). I’m happy to say it is all coming together though!

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
Well, I am an agency signed model, I do freelance work (when applicable), and I am a YouTube creator. I think what sets me apart from other models, is a lot of things, but I’ll hone in on a few things that make me stand out the most. First, I am an “in-between” size or midsized model. There aren’t a ton of us in the industry, when people look for or even imagine a model it is either the fashion model type (usually a size 0-2) or plus size 16+. Another reason I believe I stand apart is because I know what type of model I am. When I mean type I mean category, such as commercial, fashion, fitness, promo modeling. This helps when a client wants to work with me, they know what I stand for and what work I do, they don’t have to guess and I know what to bring to the table to bring out the best in the clients brand. Third, my hair, skin, and eyes make me naturally stand out.

I’m currently really excited about being interview by y’all “Shout Out Miami” thank you for this! Also doing my YouTube channel called World of Daisy Flowers, where I talk about modeling industry tips, beauty and some of my own journey. I can’t wait to find more time to post more often, but in the mean time I post when I can!

I won’t say it was hard getting where I was today, but it has been taxing mentally. There is a lot that goes on in the industry and you’re basically an entrepreneur. I really think anyone who wants to get into this industry should know that, I didn’t know, but I found out quickly after going through a few hurdles.

I want the world to know– I want people to know that, if you really want something, no matter what it is or the obstacles that may happen, to just go for it. Go after what you want, if you want it, it can happen. Don’t just dream about it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them?
I would take my best friend to the beach! The beach never fails, everyone loves it. I would secondly take them to this delicious Venezuelan spot called, Saman. Oh my gosh, It is so good! I would recommend them the Shredded beef Arepas. I’m a huge foody so I probably would take them to a ton of restaurants, then take them to whatever community events may be happening during the week (it’s the best way to know the community and locals).

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I appreciate the photographers, my agency(s), and the brands who have seen my potential from the beginning and investing their time to work with me. The impact of investing in me is bigger than they may ever realize.
