We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessica Martin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessica, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Launching my Creative Agency, Mood, was a very natural progression of my career if you take a look at my past experiences. I have a background in marketing & PR which I was doing while building my modeling career. I was then able to transform modeling into “influencing” and was able to monetize my Instagram. From there I really developed my passion for photography and began including content creation in my pitch to brands, which garnered more interest than I could have expected. I then realized I could take this to the next level, which is how Mood was born, with my business partner, Olivia Pascale. She’s also a model, influencer, and content creator, and we co-host a podcast about female entrepreneurship together, so it was truly just a very aligned next step for the both of us.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Mood The Agency was launched by myself and my business partner, who are two content creators/influencers who have thrived in the digital space for the past five years. We have our fingers on the pulse of all things social media, which sets us apart from many traditional agencies. We’ve been able to deliver amazing results to our clients that truly speak for themselves. I’m most proud of the team and company culture we’ve built. It’s one of our main values to have happy, healthy employees that truly love and are fulfilled by what they do.
I recently saw a quote that read, “I’m pretty sure starting a business is just a subconscious choice to do deeper soul work.” (@millanasnow, twitter) and it could not be more accurate. There are many unforeseen challenges that arise when starting a new business, but no one ever talks about the inner transformation that occurs simultaneously. It’s incredibly challenging, but incredibly rewarding.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love to go out and get social, and here are some of my favorite spots to do that: Mila (great dinner & brunch), Byblos (amazing dinner & drinks), Swan (a must, any time), The Freehold (awesome vibes, drinks, and pizza to die for). One of my favorite parts about Miami, though, is the beach. Definitely hit South Point Park on Sundays around sunset- the vibes, views, and people are incredible.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I owe my success and growth in this lifetime to so many people, books, experiences. But there are, of course, a few that stand out. First and foremost, my business partner and co-host, Olivia Pascale. Our podcast is called Whiskey & Water because it’s an ode to our friendship and the balance it provides. She’s an incredible, gracious human who encourages and inspires me every day. I’d also like to dedicate some of my growth to a very profound book, The Power of Now. This book opened up a new world not only in front of my eyes, but inside myself as well. A few other special mentions are Juan Lizardi, for showing me sacrifice & discipline, Jeff Tait, for showing me what true hard work & dedication looks like, Thomas Drew for being an amazing mentor and ray of light, and finally, my teams at Mood and Whiskey & Water, because without them, none of what I do would be possible. I could go on and on, because I’ve been blessed a million times over with the presence of incredible people, and I am merely a culmination of parts of them.
