Meet Jamika Jackson | Versatile stylist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamika Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jamika, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting my own business took years (19+ years). I started doing hair at 13. From then I knew Cosmetology was going to be a major career/ goal for myself. Whether having other things or challenges thrown at me, I just knew what made me happy and would be something I enjoyed along side being a great mother. The first step was to give myself a image that was unforgettable to my hair brand, of course giving clients a face they would recognize and never forget. Then expanding, putting myself out there in the hair world around me. But with all the beauty and hair expects out there, is where the challenges start. I wanted to make sure clients knew that I was reliable, reasonable, honest and most importantly dedicated to my profession. I worked harder, smarter, taught myself techniques. Perfection my craft, making it were I was a all in one for clients. I wanted them comfortable. Onto giving myself a name that “MILLI”ions can put a face to. It took years to make this happen, but it worked out great nevertheless just how I wanted it too happen. I’m forever grateful for those that took this journey with me and kept me leveled even when I wanted to give up. They saw the vision with me.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Dipping my fingers into the cosmetic world, I wanted to learn everything possible when it came to catering to my clients. I wanted my clients to be able to come to me for all there needs. Making myself very hard to get to, but very convenient also. I definitely give myself a pat on the back when it comes to this profession. I’m my own model, so when people see me, notice me, or even ask questions it’ made it very easy to pitch my work. The lesson along the way, would be the best advice to anyone “NEVER GIVE UP”. Your going to have doubters, non-believers, But always keep your faith and stand firm when it comes to your vision.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite place down south to eat and drink is Earls dadeland. Introduced to me by my fiancé. They have amazing drinks and cocktails. But as far as hanging out, probably a lounge (no particular one). But most of the time, I like the chilled feeling of hanging around the house drinking wine and listening to music while laughing, catching up, and having a good time.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to my family (my mom, dad, stepparents, grandparents), there my biggest supporters. My 3 beautiful kids (that keeps me focused). And My fiancé Devin, who’s my biggest push.
