We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimone Fearon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kimone, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Motherhood inevitably leads to big changes in all parts of life, for myself these weren’t just lifestyle changes but a newfound passion. I grew up in an immigrant household where my mother and grandparents put a huge emphasis on holistic approaches. However, it wasn’t until becoming a mother that I really understood what that meant. Looking at health from a new perspective–and that health lies inside and out. This began my journey and passion for clean beauty and becoming an eco-conscious consumer. Honing in on habits that make me feel good and look great.
I felt inspired to share the path my mother showed me with others that were struggling with the changes that pregnancy and postpartum can create. And so, after careful research and with the help of skincare experts and organic chemists, Matana Organics was born.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a small business, going through a pandemic was the most challenging time we ever faced since starting Matana. We had no other choice but to stay laser focused and push through what seemed like an overwhelming task. One important lesson we have learned through pandemic is that having an excellent support system and community is invaluable.
I know Matana wouldn’t have survived if it wasn’t for our network of working mothers, over at HeyMama Co., and their endless effort, dedication, and support. As a result, we were able to grow it into an amazing brand and skincare line that’s now available in Anthropologie, TheTot, Bohemian Mama and so many other amazing retailers.
I’m also proud to say that Matana Organics remains family-owned and looking forward to sharing all the new things to come for the brand.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Typically, I have busy workdays, having a healthy work family balance, practicing self-care and allocating time to unwind is important to me. Most of my closest friends who also lead busy lives, feel the same way and enjoy going on a relaxing trip. So, when my friends and I check in with each other, I’ll usually suggest we go to KeyWest if our schedule permits during the summer. It’s something about being on a subtropical island, partying to your own vibe, embracing a new culture and its people. The atmosphere feels free and there is so much to explore.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Community and a tribe are so important for entrepreneurs. Which is why I have to shoutout, HeyMama Co., a network of working mothers who provide support, guidance and tools for working mothers. It really does require a tribe to succeed, and I can’t imagine going through the path I’m in without all the amazing women I’ve met through their network.
I also have to shout out to all my family, my husband and friends for their love and support! Even with their busy schedule, they still find time to offer advice and resources in a genuine effort to uplift and support me and my career endeavors.
I started Matana with the intention to pursue what I love, because it’s something I hope to instill in my son by example.
