We had the good fortune of connecting with Alyxa and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alyxa, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
As I got older and had more responsibility, I managed my time a lot better. Before, I would just be lazy and chose to work on my music/craft on my days off. Now, I go to the studio right when I clock out of my 9-5. I went from working in the studio a couple times a month to a few times a week. I’ve definitely gotten a lot more motivated and dedicated.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I was raised in a Christian home so having this kind of dream isn’t easy. Music is in my blood, both sides of the family. But I wanted pursue it as my career. At first, my parents didn’t approve of it. They’re we’re nights I would come home late or even the next day. Even snuck out my house to go to the studio. Of course there were consequences but it never stopped me from doing what I love. I’ve heard many stories about the music industry and that’s why my father was against it. I kept on writing, going to the studio, making content, going to shows, etc. I did not care. I said “I am doing this and I will pay off your house. Mark my words.” Eventually, they started sharing my craft with EVERYONE. As for others, I had to push my name out there and get recognized. I had that attitude like “You will hear me.” I’m not a rude person but I had to claim that for myself. And I’m proud of that because I get respected. I’m loving the woman I’m becoming.

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
My best friend Cristal would want to visit the WORLD! Italy, Rome, Paris, you name it. Especially if they have alcohol lol. But if I had to take her someplace, probably somewhere tropical like Bora Bora, Cancun, or Costa Rica. But I DEFINITELY wanna see Italy! I need to taste the REAL Italian food.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The person who truly inspired me to work on my own music was my cousin Rey. He was the first that believed in me before anyone. Once I turned 19, I started working with a producer named Arty and he became one of my greatest friends. Took me a few years to find my sound and pushed myself with songwriting. And now at 23, I’m working at Jaica Studios on a weekly basis. I meet new people, artists, and producers everyday. It’s truly a beautiful thing.
