We had the good fortune of connecting with Mimi Ghandour and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mimi, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The biggest factor behind the success of Mimi Yoga and my life is to keep building and growing community, which I’ve been able to do through yoga. When you build community, you help people help one another, which has a multiplying effect. I think yoga is a great tool to use to build community because yoga is a safe practice where you can be your most authentic self and open yourself up to be vulnerable to those around you. I have made lifelong friends through my yoga practice and being able to use yoga to help people from all of the world connect with one another is the greatest gift I could ask for and the foundation of Mimi Yoga.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Mimi Yoga is a thriving community and yoga teacher training school with a comprehensive curriculum including 200-hour yoga teacher training, online yoga classes, weekly workshops, yoga retreats and more.

For a while, I let self-doubt and fear hold me back from starting Mimi Yoga sooner. I had an idea of expanding my yoga teaching to online students in my head for a long time before I believed in myself enough to take the leap of faith necessary to begin. Launching Mimi Yoga has made me realize the importance of everyone, but particularly women, believing in themselves and their abilities because we can do SO much together! I found one of my greatest resources has been leaning on the amazing talents of the individuals in my yoga community when I encountered aspects of my business that I was unfamiliar with. I’ve been able to overcome many of the bumps in the road by building a great team and leveraging the talents of generous members of the Mimi Yoga community who have offered guidance along this journey

What sets Mimi Yoga apart from other yoga studios is our COMMUNITY. I am a firm believer that we are NOTHING without a strong community behind us. I am so proud that Mimi Yoga has students from all over the globe, including Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Costa Rica, Kuwait, France and that we have been able to connect people who would have most likely never met one another.

The Mimi Yoga community has grown through our Mimi Yoga Teacher Training where we teach individuals from all over the world to become certified yoga instructors. More than just a yoga teacher training, our training seeks to provide a total mind, body and spirit transformation. Teacher Training students graduate with more than just yoga knowledge—they leave with a new group of like-minded friends, more confidence with public speaking and ready to build their personal yoga brand.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Zak The Baker – for a phenomenal breakfast The Standard Hotel – spa, yoga, pool day
Sol Yoga Wynwood – for hot yoga
Mandolin – mediterranean lunch
LPM – for an amazing dinner

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have been lucky enough to find several mentors who truly want me to succeed. One specific mentor who deserves a major shoutout and who has guided my path is Cathy DeFrancesco, founder of Sol Yoga. I vividly remember the moment Cathy gave me a chance to teach at Sol Yoga when it first opened and she looked in my eyes and said “Mimi, I believe in you and you are going to change the world.” I was truly inspired by Cathy’s confidence and belief in my ability. Recently, when I told Cathy that I am currently in the process of opening up a physical Mimi Yoga Studio in Miami, she was extremely supportive and told me it was going to “explode,” rather than viewing my studio as a competitor to her studios. For that, I will always be eternally grateful to Cathy.
