We had the good fortune of connecting with Khadijah Adams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Khadijah, how do you think about risk?
I believe that taking risks could mean success or failure in life and in business. If you don’t take any risks, you fail by default. When you take risks, you have a better chance at success and you never fail, you only learn valuable lessons. Then keep moving forward.

As an entrepreneur and investor, taking risks plays a tremendous role in my life and career. I take risks daily. Whether investing or hiring someone; even doing business with a company or an individual. There are always risks. The key is learning how to manage those risks.

What should our readers know about your business?
The name of my firm is Girl, Get That Money. We are an authentic business empowerment and coaching firm. We offer a variety of customized business services, tools, and resourcesfor women in business or women aspiring to be in business. Our mission is to help women design and execute a plan of action that helps them gain clarity, set new goals, and align with their vision. What sets us apart from other firms is that we meet women where they are in their process.

I am most proud of the fact that I’ve empowered and helped over 176 women get started in business in a variety of different industries, and almost 90% of them are still in business today.

I’ve been a full-time entrepreneur since 1997, and I’ve had several businesses. Some that did well, and some that didn’t do so well. Some I sold and some I had to close. During my process, I didn’t fail, I learned and grew from my experience and started helping other women navigate their way through entrepreneurship and the potential pitfalls they can’t see or don’t know about.

Some lessons were (1) be sure to have a contract when hiring or working with someone so everyone understands what’s expected from both parties (2) keep an attorney on retainer (3) keep good records (4) never stop networking (5) when you work, work – when you play, play. Then finally, always have a well-thought-out plan and expect to pivot at times never give up.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I recommend breakfast at JoJo’s Coffeehouse, then if you are a cannabis consumer, I totally recommend Best Dispensary located in Mesa, Arizona. Afterward, grab lunch and have a massage at the Spa at Sanctuary Camelback Mountain. Then have dinner and drinks at Ocean 44.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout goes out to all the men and women who have been instrumental in my growth and success in the cannabis industry, starting with my family, my entire team, my associates, my mentors, my investors, and the nonprofit organizations that I am a member of, represent, and support.
